Product Description Designed specifically for pharmacy technicians, using the competencies developed by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), this comprehensive worktext covers everything from basic math skills to reading and interpreting labels and physicians’ orders. The unique worktext format introduces readers to key calculation and conversion concepts and then provides a wealth of self-tests and practice problems — more than any other calculations book for pharmacy technicians— so readers can immediately apply what they are learning to realistic and challenging calculation problems. Other key concepts include conversions between the various measurement systems, reconstituting liquid medications, and calculating medications for special populations. * Each chapter begins with definitions of key words and a comprehensive list of objectives to help readers accomplish learning goals. * Chapter-by-chapter pretests allow readers to assess their current knowledge of specific topics. * More than 1,300 practice problems throughout the book provide a wealth of practice with calculations, conversions, and measurements. * Step-by-step examples and problems accompanied by actual full-color drug labels give readers real-world experience with the labeling they will see in pharmacy practice. * Body system icons appear next to medication names to help readers begin to associate different drugs with their respective disorders and body systems. * Learning Tips boxes offer helpful strategies for learning and remembering information. * Points to Remember boxes and review sections summarize key chapter concepts to help readers focus on vital information.

| Customer Reviews: Passed November 18, 2009 Gary B I wasn't an A student in Math when I attended school almost 27 years ago, the book was an excellent tool, my exam contained a lot it was dosage calculations such as IV doses, compounding different strengths of creams together to get one, .... and you had to know the different schedules of drugs I-VI i studied very hard and it payed off, I PASSED but i cant say it was because of this book, I
used the material here Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE, PTCB) Simulation Software. 3,020 Questions. PTCB Practice Calculations, PTCB Practice Medication Usage and Administration. HIGHLY recommended
Errors, Errors, Errors!!! April 6, 2009 Morgan Merchant (PA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
For a second edition book, this text is wrought with errors! I am an instructor in a pharmacy technician program and this book has been nothing but a headache. The content is ok (I feel it goes above and beyond the scope of practice of most pharmacy technicians) and is organized well. However, with the number of errors in this book, I can't imagine using it to study for the PTCB exam! I would be asking myself whether I truly knew how to calculate problems due to all the wrong answers! It's not just the answers in the back that are wrong, there are practice problems at the BEGINNING of each chapter that are wrong! Even something as simple as roman numerals they manage to screw up! For instance, in the directions for using roman numerals, it states "only one smaller number may be placed either before or after a larger number". That is simply not true! How else would you make a number like 8 (viii) you MUST repeat after the larger number, there is no other way to write it! Anyway, due to the errors and the lack of self-confidence that this book instills in a student, I do NOT recommend this book to anyone!!!
Good Content July 19, 2007 J. Suing (Nebraska) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I purchased this book to practice for the Certification test. I am very pleased with the content. It has given me a lot more confidence as far as the math end of things. I have noticed quite a few answers in the book that have been wrong. They could be typing errors. I have had a couple different pharmacists check over the problems and verify the answers that are in the book are not correct. This makes it more difficult to learn the content on my own when I depend on the answers to tell me if I did the problem right. Overall, I'm glad I purchased the book.
Great Practice for the PTCB Exam January 9, 2007 Carmel Forzano (MD, USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
If you want a lot of math practice before you take the PTCB exam, this is the book to have. It goes into every type of calculation that you will come across on the exam. There are so many practice problems that by the time you work through the whole worktext you should have the confidence needed to tackle just about any problem they throw at you.
