Best prep for math 2 ever! December 29, 2008 I got 800 on the 12-6 math 2 test! Don't be scared by those difficult problems. They are exactly the point of getting you a higher score! I did 4 practice tests in this book and got 680-700 average. When things come down to the real test, all I wanted to say was "LIFE IS SO EFFING BEAUTIFUL!" Good luck to you all! p.s.: I am 15 years old, a junior, and... I am Chinese.15 Realistic Tests for the SAT Math Level 2: With Solutions
Difficult but helpful October 25, 2008 I would agree that this book is shockingly difficult. But practicing on the 15 tests definitely prepares you for the test (which I found to be quite easy after this). And being able to complete the tests makes precalculus and math in general much less difficult.
Not suited for Math IIC but Good for Contest Math September 2, 2008 This book is not what it claims to be: most problems are not intended for the SAT II at all. Instead, it's geared toward math competitions and that's why it's extremely hard. I was able to get 50/50 on most of these tests but it wasn't really for the SAT II. Some problems are just wrong - for example, on one problem the solution uses the number 18 in the answer but the problem statement adds an extra '0' (into 108) which is pretty innocent. Just ignore it and move on. It's good practice in problem solving, and will prepare you well.
Great Training June 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book was somewhat accurate (harder). Barron's was most accurate for Math Level 2, but Meylani's was definitely great training. First, there are fifteen practice tests, more than you will find anywhere else. Also, because this book is slightly harder than the actual exam, it helps with time management and efficiency. You'll definitely feel much more comfortable on test day.
I recommend using Meylani's in the middle of your preparation. Warm up and make sure you know your basics with Princeton Review and Barron's. Meylani's will help apply this knowledge to difficult tests. Don't be discouraged by scores on Meylani's exam. For a confidence booster, especially right before test day, do a practice test or two from one of your warm up books.
In my opinion, the questions marked as more difficult were not necessarily so. It really depends on the individual. Also, some of the solutions are very short and don't explain much, so if you are not naturally inclined towards math, it may take a while to understand, especially since the problems are already harder. In addition, the distribution of topics (i. e. number of problems per topic) is not realistic, so again, make sure you get the basics for the SATII Math Level 2 test down first.
With math, often you just have to do problems, and Meylani's provides that opportunity. If you can get a decent score on Meylani's, your actual score will exceed expectations.
Also, I was able to get my book for a good price and great quality.
NOT AT ALL REALISTIC!!!! BUT... June 9, 2008 A more accurate name for this book would be "15 Ridiculously Difficult Tests for the SAT Math Level 2 Subject Test".
WAY more difficult than the actual SAT Math, as the author admits in the preface, it'll get you pulling your hair out till you go bald.
I only did 10 of these tests, and they were easily more difficult than my Calculus and trigo finals in Grade 12!!
Not that all of this is a bad thing, after doing these tests, I improved my score by more than 150 points on the actual SAT Math Level 2 test.
Just remember, if you can get even 32-33 out of 50 in THIS book, you'll easily get a perfect score on the actual SAT. My highest on one of these was 31, and I'm expecting about 770-800 on my test, depending on the grading curve.
