Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Meridian Two is about the people who did not leave the Great Plains during the drought and destructive "Black Blizzards" in the mid-1930s. Somehow nature and the Great Depression have joined forces against the farmers. The poor wheat harvest, farmers' main source of income for the year, leaves families in despair. Evangelists rant how the expanding foreign wars, dust storms and other natural disasters, are signs of the approaching doomsday. Charlatans in medicine shows, and now on radio, appeal to men's sexual weaknesses with promises of cures. Kids gain learning experiences from close encounters with wild animals, wild men and ghosts. Yet, in spite of their troubles, folks till maintain a sense of humor. Somehow they find ways to have fun. The explosion of radio's popularity helps focus their minds away from the problems of the day. In their trials and tribulations, these people set an example of how to survive in the worst of times.

Customer Reviews:
5 out of 5 stars About farm families who toughed out the dust storms   September 9, 2002
Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA)
The Meridian Two by Clayton L. Hogg is an enthusiastically recommended novel about farm families who toughed out the dust storms that ravaged Kansas in the Great Depression. From the taste of farm water (unique to each farm), to the ominous threat of impending war threatening to draw young men away from the family farm and plunge them into the lethal heat of combat, to the experiences arising from an earth-shaking faith of religious revival, The Meridian Two offers an historically accurate picture of what it was like to endure through tough times, clinging to hope for better days ahead. Also very highly recommended is Clayton Hogg's The Meridian One, the first novel in the "Meridian" saga.
