Product Description

In the newest devastatingly intense thriller by #1 New York Times bestselling phenomenon Vince Flynn, his deadly and charismatic hero Mitch Rapp wages a war against a new enemy with the help of a fellow soldier as dedicated and as lethal as they come.

Vince Flynn's thrillers, featuring counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp, have dominated the imagination of readers everywhere. In them, Flynn has captured the secretive world of the fearless men and women, who, bound by duty, risk their lives in a covert war they must hide from even their own political leaders.

Now, Rapp and his protege, Mike Nash, may have met their match. The CIA has detected and intercepted two terrorist cells, but a third is feared to be on the loose. Led by a dangerous mastermind obsessed with becoming the leader of al-Qaeda, this determined and terrifying group is about to descend on America.

Rapp needs the best on this assignment, and Nash, who has served his government honorably for sixteen years first as an officer in the Marine Corps and then as an operative in an elite counterterrorism team run by Rapp is his choice. Together, they have made careers out of meeting violence with extreme violence and have never wavered in the fight against the jihadists and their culture of death. Both have fought the war on terrorism in secret without accolades or acknowledgment of their personal sacrifices. Both have been forced to lie to virtually every single person they care about, and both have soldiered on with the knowledge that their hard work and lethal tactics have saved thousands of lives.

But the political winds have changed in America, and certain leaders on Capitol Hill are pushing to have men like Rapp and Nash put back on a short leash. And then one spring afternoon in Washington, DC, everything changes.

Using his insider knowledge of intelligence agencies and the military, Flynn once again delivers an all-too-real portrayal of a war that is that is waged every day by a handful of brave, devoted souls. Smart, fast-paced, and jaw-droppingly realistic, Extreme Measures is the political thriller of our time.

4 out of 5 stars Mitch Rapp gets a "partner"   December 2, 2008
Flynn's previous novel was a disappointment and I thought he had lost that hard core edge that made me a major fan. I was wrong! Extreme Measures was Flynn at his best. And it certainly looks like Mike Nash will be his partner in the fight against terrorists. That is until Flynn decides that Nash needs a mission on his own.

Extreme Measures is an action read that you won't want to put down.

5 out of 5 stars Continued action and excellence from Flynn   December 2, 2008
After following the adventures and patriotic actions of Flynn's main character, Rapp, you find that both the author and Rapp stand up for the survival of America not by fighting "fair", but by fighting to "win". Sometimes the wrong way is the only right way to do it.
The book is a enjoyable political military read that leaves you talking to yourself.

2 out of 5 stars Disappontment   December 1, 2008
I have read and enjoyed every Vince Flynn book but this latest is a terrible disappointment. It was more right wing propaganda than ,like his previous works, cleverly crafted political suspense novel. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars More Politics - Less Action   December 1, 2008
Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp is one of the great action characters of fiction. He now has a protege, Mike Nash. Nash figures more prominently in this novel than Rapp - which is not a bad thing.

Relatively speaking, for a Mitch Rapp novel, this book has less action and thrills than prior incarnations. Much of it concerns the political pull and tug of Rapp and Nash's CIA who fight the bad guys and the politicos who want to tie their hands by following the Geneva Convention and the US's laws. Much of this book takes place in Washington and on the Hill with committee testimony and political back room maneuvering. A liberal female Senator is the "bad guy" who overshadows the actual bad guys - the terrorists. It is the jabbing, punching and counterpunching with her that predominates in this book. The match between Rapp and her is a quality plot line.

As noted, Nash also figures prominently. He has family problems that shadow the country's problems. This subplot illuminates the larger national picture and is a very nice touch by Mr. Flynn. Nash is the character in this book given depth and breadth. Rapp and Kennedy (the CIA boss) having already been given their personalities in previous books.

Those who read these novels only for the action will be disapoointed, as there is a dirth of gun-slinging and martial arts. Those who read these novels for the overall picture will be more than satisfied with Flynn's realistic view of the world brought forward through his usual good plots and good writing.

This novel can stand alone. However, it is definitely enhanced if the reader knows the characters from past works.

5 out of 5 stars Flynn's book   December 1, 2008
I like Flynn's books because I learn a lot about the truth of Islam and how our government is dealing with the issue of terrorist.

I just wish he did not use the "f" word. It is totally unnecessary for his story line.
