Best book I've read on chickens November 15, 2009 popcorntx (texas) very, very good. I would recommend this book for all those that have no idea about what they're doing with chickens!
Raising Chickens for Dummies - AWESOME!!!!!!! November 5, 2009 Jennifer Louise Majors (Missouri) This is one of the best books for raising chickens I have come across. Well worth the small price tag. Expert advice and common sense advice is found in this book. Just try to put it down. Everything from what chicken to buy to how to build a coop and where to go for more information.
Awesome job on this one.
My chickens thank you!!! November 4, 2009 jessierose (USA) I got Raising Chickens for Dummies yesterday. I haven't put it down yet! Thousands of my questions are answered! Questions I didn't know I had are answered! I feel a million times more competent and confident as a chicken keeper already.
Seriously, I can't say enough good things about it!
I'm off to sit by my new coop and read and read and read!
Raising Chickens for beginners November 2, 2009 C. Jimenez (Hinesville, GA USA) For a beginner learning to raise chickens, this book is an excellent reference. It goes into enough detail to explain how to raise chickens in providing all their basic needs and care and explaining all the basic chores you need to do to keep your chickens healthy and happy. It is very well written, entertaining and easy enough to understand. This is a great text book for a 4H or FFA poultry class or project. It explains when and how to feed chickens depending on the reason for having the chickens. It has chapters on choosing chickens, housing your flock, caring for and breeding your flock. The book also explains basic chicken biology and behavior and mentions most of the major known diseases of chickens and what to do to prevent exposure to them or at least to minimize their impact. It is a great reference for starting your chickens out right. I will definitely keep this tome on my poultry book shelf for future reference. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in raising chickens for showing, eggs, meat or pets. The chicken whisperer recommended this book on his website and he recommendation was accurate for beginners. Experts can also benefit from reading this book to remember why they do the things they do to raise chickens in an organized and efficient manner.
