5 out of 5 stars Excellent Walkman   January 27, 2006

I have read the crybaby reviews from "no dc adapter" to dropping it and it not working properly. Whiners. Take care of things. You aren't little kids. I have had this Walkman for 6 years with no problem. It was, for quite a number of years, my primary source of music. Alas I cannot find another. If I could I would even buy one used and repair my worn out WMFX 479. Stop crying you bunch of tape player abusers. You need Fred Flintstone equipment!

I can't fathom sometimes what Sony is thinking. They made a great Walkman and then loaded it down with unnecessary stuff that makes you wonder. The electronic controls I can deal with, but the response time of those controls need help. If you are used to a manual type of Walkman where you can switch between REWIND and PLAY or FAST FORWARD and PLAY quickly, this is NOT for you (I'm one of those). The beeping that signifies your pressing a button is downright too loud and not needed. Also, the setting of menu items completely disrupts your listening since it interrupts the audio going into the headphones. NOT GOOD! C'mon SONY! When are you going to get back to basics and give us something that we can really enjoy without the booping and beeping? WE DON'T NEED IT!

Now, the good parts. The MegaBass does work, but a second, middle position would be helpful. The sound quality is up to their usual standards and the unit itself is quiet and doesn't eat batteries too fast. Radio sensitivity is decent and that says a great deal. Try walking through midtown Manhattan and listen to any FM or AM station without encountering any type of interference. CAN'T BE DONE!!! This unit is one of the better ones I've owned for sensitivity and interference rejection.

On sale, it's a good value. Beyond that, think long and hard about spending your hard earned dollars on this one. Sony makes lots of others that may be better suited for you.

I have had this walkman for over a year and I love it!! The only thing is I cant find a DC adaptor for it and there is not an DC accesorie for it. I think they should make one. Other than that it is a really excellent walkman. I have droped it a few times and nothing has happened much. I use it everyday for pamphlete delivery and it has survived that. If u want any info on it email me at hotmix2@hotmail.com

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Walkman Yet   January 24, 2000

I really love this walkman. It has tons of great features like the ability to hold 30 preset stations on the radio. The sound quality is really good too. I also like the way how everything is digital on the walkman, so that you can put the walkman on hold so nothing can turn it on unless you move the hold switch. This was really helpful for me as when i would carry my old walkman in my backpack it would always turn on and batteries would run out quickly. In this case it doesnt happen. The leather case that comes with it is really cool too as it has the cutouts on the case if you need to stop/play a tape or whatever. My only complaints are that when you press a button it beeps to loud in the headphones and theres only a belt clip on the carrying case and not the walkman so if you have to change a tape you have to take it off your belt, take the walkman out of the case and then open the cassette holder and take it out. Also it seems like the walkman needs like special care because the way it is constructed. Also, I would have prefered black instead of silver/gray, but the colors are still cool. These have been only minor complaints with me though so far as I really enjoy this walkman.

1 out of 5 stars Cheaply Constructed and Overpriced   January 13, 2000

Easy to use with good sound quality, but... Beeps loudly in the headphones for every button you press and when the tape reverses direction. I found this both unecessary and annoying. No clip on the unit itself, only on the case. This means you must remove the unit from the case everytime you want to change a tape. Also, the clip on the case is right side up, which means that you must remove the clip from your belt to do anything or learn to read upside down (unit is right side up to someone facing you). I had mine for just over a month, when I dropped it from about 2 or 3 feet off the floor, and now the tape player does not function at all. For the premium price Sony charges compared to other manufacturers of similar units, I would expect it to be more durable. This is the second Sony walkman I've had, the first was cheaper and withstood numerous drops before the tape player gave way (lasted several yrs.). I am switching to another manufacturer, maybe I can find one that will last longer than a month!
