Product Description Anatomically correct We owe a great debt to Jean Baptiste Marc Bourgery (17971849) for his Atlas of Anatomy, which was not only a massive event in medical history, but also remains one of the most comprehensive and beautifully illustrated anatomical treatises ever published in any language. Bourgery began work on his magnificent atlas in 1839 to accompany the text volumes that had began publication in 1831, and the eight-volume collection was finally completed in 1854, five years after his death. The four parts of Bourgerys treatise cover descriptive anatomy, surgical anatomy and techniques (covering in detail nearly all the major operations that were performed during the first half of the 19th century), general anatomy and embryology, and microscopic anatomy. The spectacular hand-colored lithographs were created by Nicolas Henri Jacob (17821871), a student of the French painter Jacques Louis David, and most of the life-size images are remarkable for their clarity, color, and aesthetic appeal! , reflecting a combination of direct laboratory observation and illustrative research; the images are to this day unsurpassed in anatomical illustration. This reprint includes the complete color plates726 in totaland will finally allow not only those in the medical field but also artists, students, and anyone interested in the study of the human body to appreciate this important historical work.

Very Very Interesting July 10, 2009 M. Sinan Akiman Im not a doctor or a serial killer but this book has some mean pictures (actually they are drawings) about the human anatomy.. basically this is the book modern medicine has been building on, and its shocking to see how things were and were done before our time.. a gory book to say the least, might even be classified as gothic...
BEWARE! There are two different editions with a similar title! January 16, 2009 William Hardy (Maryland, USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
When looking at the reviews and deciding if you want this book, bear in mind that the huge, linen-bound 2005 edition is probably the one everyone is raving about. It is out of print and goes for about $300 these days. The currently available 25th Anniversary "Special Edition" from 2008 is considerably shorter and more affordably produced, but it will not have quite the same impact or collector value. Just watch those pub. dates and price ranges, folks!
SUPER ANATOMY ATLAS August 13, 2008 Medical Student (Enschede, Overijsel, The Netherlands) This is a very nice atlas. The pictures are beautiful. It is not the best atlas to study (I am a medical student in the Netherlands), but this is definitly a atlas for your collection.
great August 3, 2008 J. R. Cohen (SLC, UT, USA) I love the images in this book. but the index is odd, and not all the anatomical names are listed. If you are looking for the name of a specific small nerve in the leg, or something of the like, you may not be able to find it even though there is a great image of that specific object.
either way i love the book, but keep a copy of grey's anatomy handy if your looking for names.
Greatest Anatomy book ever! Go Taschen! July 2, 2008 D. McGruder (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book has everything I need to know for my Human Anatomy related courses. It is worth every penny. Plus, you're just not cool unless you have this book.
