Amazon.com Review "Periodization," nutrition, stretching, peaking--who knew that so much went into riding a bike? Joe Friel's The Cyclist's Training Bible is jam-packed with information, easily the most authoritative book on cycling to date. Friel, a lauded coach and masters athlete from Colorado, adopts the principles of Dr. Tudor Bompa, whose periodization training methods were used first by the dominant Eastern European athletes of the 1960s before becoming popular in the United States.

it's a bible for a reason September 9, 2009 Daniel Stevens this is THE book, ladies and gentlemen. if you want to know how to ride fast, at no matter what level, this is the book for you. even if you have a coach, this book gives you a better understanding on the 'whys' of training.
Great read - full of relevant information for all levels of cyclists August 24, 2009 Ls Hamilton (Australia) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book has a vast amount of information for the cyclist - whether starting out of expert
Keeps on improving. August 15, 2009 Heath T. Busen (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Joe did a good job updating this 4th addition. It's true that any cyclist could learn a lot from this book, but truthfully only the hardcore are going to be able to make full use of it.
I would recommend this book and two others for any serious cyclists. First one being "High Performance Cycling" by Asker E Jeukendrup PhD and the Second book being one that Joe Friel helped with called "The Paleo Diet...for athletes" by Loren Cordain.
With these three books you'd be armed with just about all the practical and technical knowledge one would need to race at a very high level.
perfect condition June 17, 2009 Matthew Maczuzak (Austin, TX) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
The book came in mint condition, for all intents and purposes it was brand new. It was also shipped fast.
The #1 cycling training book of all time. April 15, 2009 FordFasteRR (Fort Lauderdale FL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book (3rd edition) when I first started road cycling. I used the knowledge from this book to develop my own training plan and start racing. After applying the principles of this book, the results have been incredible, I went from being dropped on group rides to leading the pack and racing with great results. Joe Friel's training bible lays out your training regimen with the proper balance of intensity, duration and recovery to maximize results. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to break the limits of their cycling fitness. It is certain that if you follow the training cycles as outlined including base, build, recovery, peak, and race phases you WILL improve your cycling and be faster and have more endurance than you ever had.
