5 out of 5 stars Really like it!   September 10, 2009
M. SIMMONS (Georgia)
We are really enjoying The Story of the World activities. I am using it in homeschooling for my first grader and she loves to hear the story each week and do the activity that goes along with it.

4 out of 5 stars A Good Backup for The Story of the World: Ancient Times textbook   August 13, 2009
F. C. Hawke (Melbourne, Australia)
Although not entirely necessary, this activity book is useful in a number of ways as a backup to the main textbook of The Story of the World: Ancient Times.

First, there is a choice of things to do, ready to suit the different learning styles of children. My own son finds doing the colouring-in and mapwork while I read aloud the related text helps the information to sink in. The other, more hands-on activities are great for children who learn best by 'doing'. The parent (or teacher) can adjust the activities to suit the age of the child, for instance, by adding a challenge to the mapwork.

Secondly, the suggested Review Questions can be typed out and presented as a comprehension exercise to a child. I do this so my son is also reading the text for himself, and practising the skills of fact-finding. The Narrative exercise is a fine excuse to raise interesting topics over dinner with the rest of the family - basically finding out what the child learned that day.

Overall, a good addition to The Story of the World series.

5 out of 5 stars Great asset!   April 14, 2009
Juliet (Jefferson, NC)
This activity book was a great help to our family. I had purchased the actual book over three years ago and never used it, for various reasons, one of which was I didn't have the time to come up with any activities to go along with it to help stimulate learning.

Then I got this activity book and since using it, my kids are engaged, I am engaged and we are all enjoying it. There are plenty of activities to choose from for each chapter, in fact I have a hard time deciding which activities to do and which to let go because we simply can't do them all. I have a "3rd grader" and a "1st grader" and they both are using the exact same material. This is very adaptable to different ages.

One word of caution: the activity book I purchased was a Revised edition, the book I already had was the original version and due to my own oversight I did not realize this--so if you are purchasing this activity book as a set with the book (which I recommend), there should be no problem. However, if you are deciding to purchase the activity book after buying the book, check to make sure they are the same version! I haven't found anything that needed to be worked around or pages that needed to be adjusted so far, but I do wish I had paid a little more attention!

5 out of 5 stars Great for the classical child   April 14, 2009
S. Simmons (Twin cities, MN)
Great history curriculm for the classical child. The maps and activities
are age appropiate for the grammar stage and exciting as well. My children love history and all the stories that take place during this time period!

4 out of 5 stars Great History for Children!   February 15, 2009
Melanie D. Gibson
This is a great basic history for children. I really like how it starts at the beginning of the world instead of starting somewhere in the middle.
