Not enough July 17, 2009 Siu Linglui (NJ USA) This book is very informative but the drawback is it that does not target the exam well enough. You simply don't understand why you got the answer wrong after you took the sample exam. I actually marginally failed the exam at the first sitting by just studying this book. I was not graduated in US and I graduated 19 yrs. ago. If you have the same situation like me, this book is not for you. I passed the exam with high mark by studying another review by O'Sullivan & Siegelman. Good luck !
Practice exam CD has software that runs on Windows only. July 11, 2009 lighten_up_already2 (Kirkland, WA USA) So, all you students out there with MacIntosh machines are out of luck. Just so ya'll have a heads up there.
Not as good as others. June 22, 2009 P.T. Barnum (PA) I thought the book was organized well, unlike other reviews. I think the book is actually a good reference tool once you pass the exam. Where this package falls flat however, is the practice tests. I did very well on the practice exams included with this book, but when I took the actual NPTE I felt totally blindsided. The questions were nothing like the questions in the practice exams, and I felt like the information the book stressed and the what the actual exam stressed were two totally different things. I haven't gotten my exam score yet, so don't think I'm upset because of a bad score. I've used the book by O'Sullivan some as well and think that was a better review book than this one, however this one is better for future reference.
Close, but no cigar April 18, 2009 Diana Yakubov 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'll compare Giles to NPTE. Giles has four exams and test itself constructed very closely as real test, after every 50 questions it'd prompt you what do you want to do next, no ability to pause. Questions are easier over all and with little if any explanations. Good overview but confusedly organized.
NPTE on the other hand has three exams, thorough explanation, tests may be paused, unlike real exam, and well organized over all. Both editions have a big downside, tests have correct answers in bold biasing the answer. But you'd benefit from both for sure.

It is a good book as a second resource. It has good charts, and is good for topics, but lacks a little bit of information. Good practice tests, which helped me a lot passing the NPTE.
Good book overall.
