Product Description
Meet Mrs. Mimi - she's the second grade teacher every kid should have. Hip and hilarious, she brings us into her New York City classroom, with no hold barred. From the Great Pencil Crisis of 2003 to ill-fated field trips (lesson #1: don't trust a farm in Queens), Mrs. Mimi has seen it all. Based on her popular blog, It's Not All Flowers and Sausages shows us what it's like to commune with seven-year-olds for a living - pee jokes, annoying colleagues, and all.

Join Mrs. Mimi in the teacher's lounge and in her classroom, as she wrangles the naughty kids, outsmarts the sneaky ones, and tries to get everyone to third grade in one piece.

5 out of 5 stars From blog to book, Mrs. Mimi's got it all!!!   November 12, 2009
R. Guidry (charlotte,nc)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mrs. Mimi!!! I, like many others, began reading her blog about two years ago and have been waiting with baited breath for her book to come out. She also inspired me to write my own blog of all my teaching experiences. It is a great way to release some tension and share the stories of my day to day life. Mrs. Mimi's stories REALLY do happen in real life. (I know. I've been there!) But the humor that she puts on each and every page is pure genius. While (as commented in other reviews) she does change the names to protect the innocent, and maybe these names do not project the person in the "best" light, Mrs. Mimi doesn't hold any punches. When "Ms. Three Drinks Before Lunch" repeats the SAME announcement THREE TIMES IN A ROW!!!! Come on, "peeps". She deserves that nickname! Everything in the book is exactly what every teacher goes through, and it will definitely be on my Christmas list for all of MY "Super Colleagues"!!! Keep it going Mrs. Mimi, and just rise above all the haters!

5 out of 5 stars Best Plane Ride Ever!   November 10, 2009

I bought this book on Amazon after seeing Mrs. Mimi's blog listed in Instructor Magazine as one of the 20 best blogs for teachers to read. I loved it, immediately called my friend/colleague and read posts out loud to him! I saved the book for a 2 hour plane ride to go see my best friend and former colleague. I finished the book with 20 minutes to spare in the air - it was awesome! I was laughing out loud on the plane, slapping my knee and tearing up. I passed it on to my friend right away (after also reading aloud to her some of my favorite stories) and am planning on getting it for my teammate for Christmas. What makes this book so great is, like many have said, it's so true and it's things that many of us teachers wish we could or would have done ourselves! Seriously, sending a kid to the nurse with their trash can full of vomit - I cried! I definitely recommend this book because so many of us work in an environment as ridiculous as the one she's mentioned and it added a lot of humor to my teaching days!

5 out of 5 stars Finally! A fun & honest book about teaching!   November 7, 2009

I've read the book twice and passed it on to others for their enjoyment. I'm not a teacher, but have always been curious of what it's like to teach. This book puts together some really funny as well as some very frustrating stories about the school system, the people that control it, run it, and the personalities that come with them.

Having worked in an office, It's nice to see that we're not alone when it comes to being frustrated with coworkers and the system we work in. The author is honest with her passion for teaching and shares all the little quirks that she and her colleagues share.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a laugh, an escape, some new understanding and a quick fun read.

5 out of 5 stars A Witty Satire/Teacher Memoir   October 21, 2009

This book is a breath of fresh air for anyone who has ever worked with children and/or in the public school system. It is insanely difficult to be a teacher, and Mrs. Mimi voices many issues surrounding that while remaining a positive teacher role model for us all. This book is a quick and hilarious narrative read, but also contains volumes of meaty social commentary that just can't help but get you thinking about how the educational system could change...for the better. I saw and heard myself expressed through this book and I think that many other teachers would say the same. Thank you, Mrs. Mimi, for saying the things that are difficult for teachers to say.

1 out of 5 stars Do they shelve whining in the humor category now?   October 18, 2009

Listen to the people around you complaining about their job/co-workers/boss
when you go home tonight and you won't have to read this book. I hope there's
a companion volume coming from others who know her to reveal the real stories
behind the incessant examples of Mrs. Mimi's perfection. This material may
work as a blog but it was nothing more than a long whine as a book. Kaplan
Publishing gets an A for marketing (you don't find out this book lacks a sense
of humor until after you've paid for it). Mrs. Mimi, however, gets a F for self
awareness.
