Biggest Loser is Big Time Consumer October 27, 2009 T. Taylor 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This diet plan is not a work friendly diet. Most days expect 1.5-2 hours in the kitchen in addition to the hour plus exercise you should be doing. Many of the lunches and snacks require cooking or blending of some sort which is almost impossible if you travel to different work sites each day and need to carry a portable lunch that can be eaten cold. Also, there are no exchanges or explanation for exchanges for items like shrimp which some of us cannot eat due to allergies. Unfortunately, it has been impossible to follow the plan accurately with so many work unfriendly meals. Cold bean burritos and cold turkey burgers just aren't that yummy or pleasant to eat. Also, I would have liked some additional guidelines for the days I needed to make changes. On a positive note, many of the meals are tasty especially the breakfast combinations. Overall, I would not recommend this plan if you do not have the time to devote to the cooking, chopping, and cleaning it requires.
A very helpful book October 19, 2009 T. Hunt (San Diego, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book was recommended by a church small group. I am not able to attend the group but I am slowly reading the book and will work through the 30 days of exercise and recipes. The recipes look simple and tasty.
great plan, good recipes, just not written for single servings October 9, 2009 L. Hughes (Lakewood, CO United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's the same complaint that I have with a lot of diet plans: too many groceries that go to waste and recipes that serve 12!! The recipes are good but you've got to cut them down which is a pain sometimes - the spices don't always work right. I find myself substituting a lot because I can't buy just 1/8 of a cup of tomato paste. The ingredients aren't reused so that you don't waste a ton. It would be nice if they assumed you'd buy a 6 ounce can of tomato paste and then gave you 3-4 recipes in the same week that each need a few ounces and you end up using the entire can by week's end. I daydream of writing my own book that has weekly grocery lists (grouped into common grocery store areas), single servings (that you can increase for the number of people you need to feed), and repeats ingredients used in small quantity so that they don't spoil in your fridge or you're tempted to eat them instead of wasting the extra food which defeats the purpose of following a nutrition plan!! Maybe somebody out there has created this but I can't find it - in print or online.
Great Guideline Book October 9, 2009 Amy Skaar 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am currently at the end of my first week. All my life I have gone up and down 10-20 pounds-so I certainly can lose weight if need be. Following this plan has given me a new heathier eating plan. I already have the exercise part down-just need to work on frequency.
I do agree with the negative reviews regarding buying something and only using it once, however I look at this more as ideas for meal planning. For example I have had the same breakfast twice using up two english muffins. I also subbed an english muffin for a bun for a turkey burger, and used one for a turkey sandwich so I don't have 5 different bread products. I also sub fruits (apple/pear/grape-pretty much the same) based on what I have on hand and what's in season.
I am a busy ft working mom, and have managed to plan ahead (I put all my meals in a spreadsheet) with a lot of prep work being done at once and haven't had issues. Most of the evening meals my family eats what the BL menu right along with me, might add a starch for them, so far they love it. All the variety of the meals should make this program last me more than just a month.
Great recipes! September 21, 2009 Elaine Corwin (Concord, PA United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am already well into a diet/exercise plan based on the Biggest Loser. But I was fast getting bored with what I was eating and needed some inspiration and recipes. This book delivers both. I especially like Doc's Chile. It's only 150 calories a cup and it's very filling and delicious. (Very fast and easy to make too.) The mushroom soup and butternut squash soups are wonderful and also easy to make. In fact, I haven't made anything from this book that I don't like. If you have a small family like I do, just freeze any extras and you'll have enough delicious healthy food on hand that you'll never be tempted by junk food. Seriously, this food is good! It's doesn't taste diet and it's just what I needed to remain motivated and on track with my health goals.
