Product Description
Nationally recognized marijuana-policy experts Steve Fox, Paul Armentano, and Mason Tvert compare and contrast the relative harms and legal status of the two most popular recreational substances in the world--marijuana and alcohol. Through an objective examination of the two drugs and the laws and social practices that steer people toward alcohol, the authors pose a simple yet rarely considered question: Why do we punish adults who make the rational, safer choice to use marijuana instead of alcohol?

Marijuana Is Safer reaches for a broad audience. For those unfamiliar with marijuana, it provides an introduction to the cannabis plant and its effects on the user, and debunks some of the government's most frequently cited marijuana myths. For current and aspiring advocates of marijuana-law reform, as well as anyone else who is interested in what is becoming a major political battle, the authors spell out why the message that marijuana is safer than alcohol must be a prominent part of the public debate over legalization.

Most importantly, for the millions of Americans who want to advance the cause of marijuana-policy reform--or simply want to defend their own personal, safer choice--this book provides the talking points and detailed information needed to make persuasive arguments to friends, family, coworkers, and elected officials.

5 out of 5 stars Informed People Make Good Decisions   November 19, 2009
IndigoHeirlooms (Sunnyside, New York USA)
This book has been the most informative and fact-filled book on marijuana use that I have ever read, either for or against. The book has information that was compelling, and even though I read quite bit about legalization new to me. Many studies are mentioned and the comparison with alcohol and other drugs are revealing. It brings to the forefront the duplicity and ignorance of government policy and public opinion of marijuana use when compared with legal drugs. Also found that I use the book to talk to others about this policy and other government policy. If you want to make intelligent conversation about US drug policy you need to read this book.

5 out of 5 stars Marijuana Is Safer - And its true...   November 6, 2009

I just got done reading the the first part of the book Chapter 1-3 and Wow there's a lot so far that I didn't even know. I'm really enjoying the book and can relate to some of the things. I'm a smoker myself but its not legal for medical purposes yet in Pennsylvania, I use it to help me sleep cause being stressed and depressed every night keeps me up and also for after work to unwind from a stressful day at work, believe be getting up at 2am working til 8am-12pm isn't fun, everything is fast pace and everything needs to be done right, no mistakes. But I reccomend this book to anyone who isn't well educated on the Marijuana vs Alcohol subject.

5 out of 5 stars This book illustrates all the corruption necessary to keep Pot illegal   November 5, 2009

This book really does an excellent job of scientifically showing how Marijuana is safer than Alcohol. Countless studies are cited and comparisons are quantified. Reading this book actually makes me angry because it shows how corrupt our government operates. People really need to read this book regardless of what you currently think. After you read it there is no way you could oppose legalization. Even if you are skeptical you can look up the seemingly infinite studies that support the case for legalization. Everyone should read this book, visit [...] and write your local representatives to end marijuana prohibition.
