saxon math 8/7 May 13, 2009 L. Smith (The U.S.) I like this textbook. It explains problems fairly well. The price was very reasonable.
The BEST February 5, 2009 Tami Claassen I used it for homeschooling. It was a temporary situation during an extended move. They are in public school now but we still use this book for review. It is the best!!! It teaches in a simple - easy to understand - way!
Saxon Math Review December 11, 2007 Meg Mcneely 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
My daughter has used Saxon since the 4th grade. She is now is 7th. However, I have recently switched and am much more pleased. Saxon is ok, but I have found that it moves too quickly without solidifying any information before moving on to the next. Sure, it continues to make the child revisit what they have learned, but you have to keep referring back constantly because it was never really locked in. I prefer a math that really practices many problems in the same chapter; concentrating only on that one subject learned before moving onto the next. Hence, when they do come across what they've already learned, they don't have to keep flipping back pages to go over it again! If you have to keep referring back, then ya didn't really know it in the first place. Some of the explaination are vague in my opinion. Though some are very good. Saxon also throws in curve balls before the child has perfected how to do a new lesson. In other words, it teaches you how to do something - gives you practice problems and within those practice problems, throws in something challenging. Why? Just practice what you're learning first - then throw in the curve ball once it's perfected.

Good book September 15, 2007 H. Hawkes (AZ) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Since we homeschool, I have been looking for a good math series to help my dd with her math-phobia... this is it. We also have 6/5, 7/6 and she loves them. They do alot of review, add new topics well. It is really great.
