Product Description Are you thinking about homeschooling your children? Do you already educate your children at home but want to do a better job? Have you wondered about common objections against homeschooling? This book is for you! "Clint's Story is an inspiring and practical book. It holds a unique place among other 'how to home school' works in that it is written by a former public schoolteacher originally skeptical about homeschooling until his own son struggled in public school. John Evans' writing style reflects the man: God-honoring, honest, and heartfelt. A 'must read' for beginning and veteran homeschoolers alike!" --Katy Jones, 20 year homeschool veteran and former substitute teacher for John Evans.

| Customer Reviews: Clint's Story--A Must Read for Those Considering Home-Schooling January 8, 2010 Kathleen Muldoon (Texas) In Clint's Story..., author John Evans presents a balanced, understandable case for home-schooling his son Clint in particular and for home-schooling as an alternative for any reader with a child who learns differently and doesn't fit into the public school agenda. I'm particularly impressed with Evans' presentation of Clint's story, which makes reading this book not only informative but a pleasant and emotional experience. The fact that Evans has taught in the public school system and kept his other son Cody in public schools does, in my opinion, lend even more credence to his advocating home-schooling based on individual cases. His research into home-schooling will be a great help to parents considering this alternative.
Unique book on homeschooling October 13, 2009 David C. Watson (Benchley, TX) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is like no other homeschool book I've seen, given the author's unique perspective. He writes about his son, Clint, who had a mixed education--some public, some private, and some at home. Not only that, but the author himself taught public school for over a decade. Most homeschool books come off as very biased and jaded against public schools, but this book is more balanced. Evans lays out a number of basic differences in the two methods of education, offering anecdotes from his days as an English teacher. For example, the reality is that a public school teacher just cannot give each student several hours of individual attention every day...and it's not because public school or public school teachers are 'evil' and 'corrupt,' but because there are scores of students to deal with and even well-meaning teachers cannot compete with the attention one gets in a home education. The author's other son is mentioned as having successfully completed all years in a public school, but Clint was unique and needed an educational environment catering to his specific needs. The book also contains practical suggestions and encouragement for homeschoolers.
This book is detailed enough to be personal and interesting while not getting bogged down. It contains enough research to substantiate the points made without becoming a review of literature. I read through it in one night and it held my interest. I recommend it to anyone who wants a more balanced view of homeschooling.
Must Read October 13, 2009 Lady Writer 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Written by a veteran school teacher, this book is a must read for anyone involved in the education of a child whether it be public, private, or home school. Clint's Story is a fast read with important, useful information for anyone considering home schooling. Children have their own strengths and weaknesses which cannot be adequately individually addressed in a large classroom atmosphere. To home school requires dedication from everyone involved. Clint's Story presents the pros and cons of public vs home school education.
Great case-study for homeschooling September 25, 2009 marinesrock.1990 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you are interested in homeschooling, pick up this book! Instead of launching a campaign against public schools, or showing parents to be inferior teachers, John Evans focuses on parents having the right to choose the best education setting for their children. I easily finished the book in a week; it was well written, straight-forward, and had few statistics that often bog down these types of books. Also, the author himself was once a school teacher. He breaks down what happens inside a public school room and shows you how homeschooling could be better for some children rather than others (The chapter entitled "Answering Objections" is extremely helpful in this area). Mr. Evans gives you practical, hands-on advice he learned from homeschooling his own son, Clint, and is a must read for future homeschoolers.
