I didn't expect this thing to really help .... glad I was wrong. October 5, 2009 Charles D. IV (Philly, PA) Like the title says, I really wasn't expecting from this book. Most of the SAT books I read back in high school didn't do much but reinforce things I already knew. Kaplan's book stands above the rest because it doesn't focus on testing test materials. Instead the book focuses on test strategies, which I found to be VERY helpful.
Good at math? Don't get this. October 1, 2009 C. Carter (SF, CA) This book contains a math preparation section, but it assumes that you have only average math skills. There is a section in the back of the book that reviews more difficult math ideas, but does not provide any strategy. It states that you'll only see these problems if you're doing really well. I was doing well, so they were the only problems I saw. So, if you're good at math, don't get this book. I would actually recommend studying from a GMAT prep book, instead.
Very Good September 17, 2009 maelycat (schenectady, ny, usa) The only think that stopped this from being a 5 start was that the book I ordered comes with an online study guide that can only be registered once. Since the book did not include the log in information for the study guide I was not able to log into this valuable tool. The book was in good condition and the CD works great! The shipping was fast and this was a very smooth transaction. Just be aware that any books that have an online guide, may not be accesible more then once, this was worth the costs and though I don't have my scores yet I am learning a lot and I feel better about taking the exam!
GRE Premier Program 2009 Edition Horrible Book & CD September 2, 2009 Emom (Spanaway, WA United States) Do not purchase! I tried to install the CD on three different computers, unable to install. I emailed Kaplan, they gave me some suggestions to help, none of which were helpful or made any sense. I tried to go online and register my book, the website said that the registration number was already being used. I then emailed Kaplan again and am getting no help. I am very frustrated that I spent my money on this book and will not be purchasing Kaplan products again.
sloppy, but there aren't too many better options... August 30, 2009 GMATNinja.com (NYC) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've worked as a tutor for the GRE and other standardized tests for nearly a decade, and Kaplan's GRE book is sort of a necessary evil. The official GRE review guide is hopelessly outdated, and most serious GRE students are forced to turn to Kaplan for extra practice.
Here's a real text message I received from one of my students: "I'm about to throw this kaplan cd against the wall. They mess all the diagrams up and then u can't do the problems and then the score is s**t. ughhhghgggghhgghh" [sic]
That pretty much sums it up. If there were a bunch of superior GRE resources out there, I'd recommend them instead. Unfortunately, all of the books have some flaws and errata, and we're forced to live with them. *sigh*
