| Customer Reviews: Poor nutritional advice November 12, 2009 Peggy A. Holloway (Omaha, NE United States) 7 out of 12 found this review helpful
I saw Bob Greene on Good Morning America and ever since, I have looked for every opportunity to speak out against this book. The menu plan featured on GMA was a disaster for anyone with the type of glucose-intolerance that results in chronic high blood sugar readings. The symptom of glucose-intolerance that is called "Type II Diabetes" can be completely avoided with a very low-carbohydrate diet. However, Greene's menus are very low in fat and too high in carbohydrates. All carbohydrates convert to glucose, which cannot be utilized by those of us with insulin-resistance/glucose intolerance. Anyone with elevated fasting blood sugars or a family history of "Type II" needs to cut out all starches, grains and sugars. Exercise is also crucial - a minimum of 30 minutes of high intensity exercise (not a stroll around the neighborhood) every day. These two simple steps will prevent "Type II Diabetes" and the accompanying obesity, heart, and circulation problems - no pharmaceuticals required. Run, don't walk away from Greene's book and check out Dr. Richard Bernstein and Gary Taubes. They have researched the science, which apparently Bob Greene has not.

This book should be the bible for diabetic. It tells how to manage and live with diabetes. It also talks about those who have diabetes and are trying to make a difference for their community and to help find a cure. The one that comes to mind is Chipapalooza ([...]) It is a charity concert series that gives its profits to help end diabetes! This book is an inspiration!!!
