Product Description
"Build Your Own Website The Right Way Using HTML & CSS, 2nd Edition" teaches web development from scratch, without assuming any previous knowledge of HTML, CSS or web development techniques. This book introduces you to HTML and CSS as you follow along with the author, step-by-step, to build a fully functional web site from the ground up.

However, unlike countless other "learn web design" books, this title concentrates on modern, best-practice techniques from the very beginning, which means you'll get it right the first time. The web sites you'll build will:

Look good on a PC, Mac or Linux computer Render correctly whether your visitors are using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, or Safari Use web standards so your sites will be fast loading and easy to maintain Be accessible to disabled users who use screenreaders to browse the Web

By the end of the book, you'll be equipped with enough knowledge to set out on your first projects as a professional web developer, or you can simply use the knowledge you've gained to create attractive, functional, usable and accessible sites for personal use.

4 out of 5 stars PRACTICAL AND WELL WRITTEN   November 22, 2009
GUIRI (CANARY ISLANDS)
I bought the book together with two others it gave me a good overview and starting point for the website I was planning to do.

It is clear and well written, I think though that it needs to be bought together with some other books that go into more detail for CSS and HTML.

It is a good starter for someone who wants to set up his own personal website and a good stepping stone for someone completely new, who is setting up his personal business website and wants to get a first sniff at this world to do it the right way.

I would buy it in addition to a more specific book for Expression WEB or Dreamweaver in addition to some books on CSS and HTML.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent starter for learning code!   November 11, 2009
Nicholas L. Mello (Nipomo, CA United States)
Written in plain english so even I could understand and use this technology. I didn't know I could create my own html, css, and code and use it effectively. I have more than one book on this subject, but this one is on top of the stack. Written for novices and veterans alike I suppose. I'm up and running now.

5 out of 5 stars Great book   November 11, 2009
Anonymous (Herndon, VA United States)
I love this book. I have ~13 years experience in the IT industry with exposure to various technologies over the years. However, I haven't had to build a professional website until now. For some reason, I was really struggling with learning CSS, which is why I bought this book. This book has two chapters dedicated to CSS, and they are excellent. Now I feel like I can actually use CSS in my project.

The other bonus is the focus on "building it the right way." This book is probably aimed at those with less experience than me, but I am so glad I took a step back and read even the basic HTML chapters in this book. I never realized how many fundamental mistakes I was making in my basic web development. Like I said, I was never a serious web developer before, so I figured I was not following some best practices, but this book opened my eyes more than I expected.

Whether a novice or not, if you are developing web pages, read this book! It will help you make sure you really do build your website the right way.

3 out of 5 stars Beginners Guide   September 16, 2009

Useful lessons in XHTML for better quality web pages. But very basic HTML. If you are a somewhat knowledgeable HTML user, would probably be better off with more advanced book.
The review and specialized technique was appreciated by me though. This book will be useful on days that my mind is slacking.

5 out of 5 stars Build your own Website   September 12, 2009

I found this book after searching for anything new to help me with CSS and web site design. The book is easy to follow and so far I have been able to create a web site using all HTML code. I have built 2 web sites on my own using Frontpage. So I had some experience how web site design works. I completely recommend this book to learn the basics and create your own site with using HTML code entirely to build your site. I wish all books were this easy to use and follow, the technical nature is still here but the book is well designed and presentation is easy to follow. The web site and information he directs the reader to use is available and easy to find. I am still working on making CSS files and having them available for my existing site to use. I feel confident that when I get time to work on these files this book will help me with minimal difficulty. As usual the work you put into the process is equal to what you get out of it. I am grateful to this book. My creatvity flows with the knowledge that I have what I need to create a great final project. Jnetti.
