Product Description "Finally, comprehensive information in one book we all - mother, father, and patient - can understand with information to relieve the angst of countless questions and sleepless nights." - Jacquelyne DenUyl, mother of Eric, juvenile dermatomyositis. "Everything you need to know has been carefully put together here in this one source. If your child has myositis and you want the best possible results, you need to read this book!" - Thomas J. A. Lehman, MD, Chief, Division of Pediatric Rheumatology, Hospital for Special Surgery in NY, and Author of "It's Not Just Growing Pains." "This gem of a book is a great resource to educate, remove some of the fears, and provide hope for anyone faced with living with this disease." - John H. Klippel, MD, President and CEO, Arthritis Foundation. This comprehensive resource for patients, families, and healthcare providers has been written and edited by medical experts in juvenile myositis. It summarizes much of what is known about this rare but serious autoimmune disease in which the body's own defense system attacks muscle and other healthy tissues. It is an indispensable resource for families of children with myositis and their healthcare teams. By reading this book, you will: 1. Learn what juvenile myositis (JM) is and how to explain it to children; 2. Understand the symptoms of JM, tests used to diagnose it, and how to find medical help; 3. Find strategies to help your child adjust to physical limitations and to cope with JM as a family; 4. Understand treatment options and how health professionals track your child's progress; 5. Gain information on different aspects of JM, including long-term outcomes; and, 6. Discover a number of resources to assist you in the fight against your child's myositis. Proceeds from the sale of this book will help fund further research into juvenile myositis.

This book is very informative on juvenile dermatomyositis. It is very helpful in teaching you what to expect in every stage of the disease, whether you are the child, parent, family member or friend. It explains the possible medications needed and their side effects. I refer to it almost daily. It has been an invaluable tool for us!
