Product Description
At age seven, Gloria Strauss received a dreadful diagnosis: She had terminal cancer. It was not news to her, however, merely confirmation of what God had told her mother a few days earlier. Your daughter will have an incurable disease, He said. When I heal her, I will change the lives of many. Instead of living in fear of death, the child carried on with an expectant faith, declaring to all she encountered that she would be a miracle. Four years into her struggle, with doctors predicting she only had weeks to live, Gloria made headlines when Jerry Brewer, a sports columnist for The Seattle Times, stumbled into her life. Expecting to write a column about Gloria s father, a high school basketball coach, Brewer wound up being mesmerized by the Strauss family s steadfast Catholic beliefs. The grandson of a Baptist minister, he had respect for the intensity of such a faith, but since he had strayed from the church during his adulthood, this story of a lifetime turned into a life lesson. Brewer followed the family of seven children for five months, witnessing religion and cancer colliding, watching Gloria inspire believers and non-believers to unite, re-evaluating himself along the way. What he learned is described in this book, embedded within a tale that alternates between chilling and heartwarming almost by the paragraph, with hope obstructing the deadly disease. Gloria s Miracle is a true story about how much you are willing to sacrifice to believe in God, in yourself, in true happiness. It is about family, community, choices, dreams and, especially, love. By the end, the vast concept of a miracle is whittled down to its poignant essence.

5 out of 5 stars A powerful and inspiring read.   September 11, 2009

You don't have to be a believer to get the message from this powerful book. For an eleven year-old to impart such saint-like wisdom beyond her years, and to draw in people young and old, near and far, you can understand why Gloria's life *was* the miracle.

Mr. Brewer's story begins with the everyday concept of sports reporting, and quickly evolves into a front-page journey through illness, faith, and realizing the precious gift of life itself. Masterfully taking readers along for the ride, initially through his highly-praised Seattle Times columns and ultimately to this book, Jerry's life-changing experience will move even the hardest of hearts.

Even if one thinks they've heard this kind of story before, they will come away from reading "Gloria's Miracle" enlightened in a way you'd expect from a great spiritual leader such as the Dalai Lama. Life's lessons could not be put more simply or beautifully than from the gifted pen of Jerry Brewer, and the heart of Gloria Strauss.

This is a MUST read for everyone. It takes you back two years and in a very meaningful way tells the story of Gloria Strauss. Only a hard hearted person would not be moved by the gumption, fight and faith she showed. She taught us all how to live our lives for the Glory of God and to not live with regrets. Live each moment to the fullest. You will laugh you will cry. Join all who have felt her glow and been inspired by her. This book shows how important it is for families to stick together, to pray and never lose sight that together anything can happen.

You will want to read this book and then share it with every one you know. It will move you in ways you may not expect and warm you in ways that will make you "glow". You will feel as if you know Gloria yourself and make you wish you had met her her and her family. They are all filled with family love and God's Love. There is no love like the warmth of God's pure love; I know, because I got part way to heaven once, but it was not time for me to stay, and I returned here. The miracle Gloria received was truly the gift of going Home. Enjoy this book and the fantastic gift of Jerry Brewer's writing. There is a reason he was chosen for this special job.
