Diagnosing per health, injuries, poisons, & insect issues April 28, 2009 Charles F. Story Jr. (Spring City, TN) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is one heroic manual! Unfortunately, it is long on words and short on what to do other than "see your vet". I bought the book so that I would know what is troubling my dogs; I know how to get to the vet, but can't afford his charges except when something is serious and I can't fix. Not to mention, the closest vet is 25 miles from here.
The book might be good for someone who wants to know a LITTLE about everything under the sun. It's utility would be vastly improved if it had generous color pictures of specific conditions, particularly skin conditions. It would be nice to suggest what the treatment should be for many conditions superficially described. Haven't seen one, but the Veteranerian edition would be closer to what I want.
Useful March 5, 2009 Catwoman69 This really came in handy with my kitten. She lost some teeth, and I found in the book that she was right on target with losing her baby teeth. It saved a trip to the vet!
A wonderful reference book...and in layman's terminology February 14, 2009 N. Nick (Tampa Bay area, FL USA) I purchased this book after discovering that one of my dogs has hypothyroidism. The book fully described the process in how the diagnosis is made, and also the treatment. I was able to understand the diagnosis explanation to me by the specialist (after an ultrasound), and already knew what the treatment process would be. Although this book is a higher priced item, you won't regret the purchase. It's an encyclopedia on pet health, and will keep you informed on everything, from symptoms all the way through to treatment, and in language that the average person will understand. This book is not just dedicated to dog and cat owners, but covers ALL animals...birds, rodents, horses, dogs, cats, etc.
Helpful, easy to read and find your topic or concern February 13, 2009 MonkeyVet This text is a must have for pet owners in my opinion. You can avoid some costly vet visits when somethings just "off" with your pet. Also, you'll know when you have something more serious on your hands. It is well written and draws directly from the Merck Vet manual but in easy to read language. It would be nice if it was broken down by species so you wouldn't be paying for a resource on animals you don't interact with.
good book February 8, 2009 Diugan Eva-Andrea (Romania) Exactly what I have expected, interesting and comprehensive, I recommend the book for everyone interested, not only for pet owners.
