Product Description

Jenn Savedge's book is packed with tips that teens can easily do to green up the world that they inhabit. Thee are also a few more challenging actions (like starting a school recycling program) for those ready to take their environmentalism up a notch. Jenn has done an impressive job creating a straightforwrd, well-organized reference book full of tips, resources and advice for eco-friendy teens. She not only explains the how's of going green; she explains the why's too, and helps teens to understand the importance of the part they can play in caring for the planet. - Robin Shreeves, Mother Nature Network

Today’s teenagers are standing at the crossroads of environmental history. Global warming will fundamentally change the world as they know it within their lifetime. But how to keep their healthy environmental awareness from becoming environmental anxiety? The secret is to provide them with education and tools for positive action.

Written in easily accessible language, The Green Teen combines simple and quick eco-friendly tips, interviews with “green teens,” ideas for organizing and communicating environmental change, and a host of resources in a handy “grab-and-go” format. Teens will learn:

  • How the choices they make each day impact the environment
  • How to fit eco-friendly decisions into their tight schedules and budgets
  • How to effectively get today’s decision makers involved in environmental stewardship

Teens want to learn how to minimize their environmental impact at home, at school, and in their communities and get their concerns recognized by school officials, politicians, media, and even their own parents.

The Green Teen is the book that will help them do it, and it is also a must-read for parents, grandparents, teachers, and school administrators who want to help the next generation make environmentally responsible choices.

Jenn Savedge is the author of The Green Parent: A Kid-Friendly Guide to Earth-Friendly Living, an avid environmentalist, and a recognized authority and frequent speaker on reducing the environmental impact of the family. Her articles have appeared in national print and on-line media, www.thegreenparent.com.

5 out of 5 stars Top 5 Ways in saving the World!   May 29, 2009

The Green Teen- Top 5 Ways to Save the World!

I just finished reading, The Green Teen by Jenn Savedge. You can find her hiding out at www.g2ggreen.org. Her site states that she " is a full-time mom, environmentalist, and author who researches and writes about the two topics that are closest to her heart: children and the environment. As a former park ranger for the National Park Service, Jenn traveled the U.S., learning about the environment in some this country's most breath-taking wild places. She currently resides with her husband and daughters in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia."

Her two passions filled the entire book! The Green Teen was totally focused on educating the teens on all the environmental buzz words. Her fun writing style will grab the attention of any teen ( I know because I have two) and explain to them how they can take on such issues such as "What can I do about Global Warming, Air Pollution, Deforestation, Sweatshops and Saving the Planet".

She breaks it down in her Top 5 Ways! Each section followed the same format-How to Green something, Top 5 Ways to start, Why Bother doing it, G2G Green Tips, Planning stage with ideas and tips on how to go about it and my last two favorite steps were How to Get your Parents Involved and Surfing Sites! She also included teens who have made an impact with their projects. She clearly pointed out that if you want to Save Your World then start with yourself, your home and your school. Once you've done that then "take it to the streets" and get your idea moving through your community!
I did a book review on my blog http://cafescrapper-scrapsoflife.blogspot.com/ and twitter i'm susieqtpie

5 out of 5 stars Is Your Teen GREEN? If not, this book will Encourage, Educate, Motivate & Inspire!   May 29, 2009
@HolisticMom (San Diego)
When I was a young teenager, I read "50 Things You Can Do to Save the World". It helped shape me into the Green Mama that I am today.

This book will help your child turn into part of the solution for global warming, for each and every one of us needs to do our part now to reduce our impact on this earth.

The Green Teen by Jenn Savedge offers interesting and inspiring case studies of teens saving the world. It also provides and tips on how to get involved, why and how to go green. It is filled with plenty of web eco resources, ideas for organizing and communicating environmental change.

It also includes ways to land job in the environmental field.

The Green Teen is an eco-friendly teen's guide to saving the planet not only in it's message but in it's printing.

"Children are the future!" This book helps your child realize how important it is to start doing something about saving the Earth now, and they'll probably end up teaching you a thing or two as well.

I found the book to be very easy to read, thoughtful, well laid out and inspiring. I wished more emphasis were put on how changing your diet to vegetarian or even vegan could make such a big difference.
