My Granddaughter's Absolute Favorite Book October 28, 2009

This has been a favorite book of two grandsons and now my 4 year old granddaughter. She can tell the whole story with expression and her own spin on it. We love to play The Big Hungry Bear, where she is the Mouse and I am the Bear looking for the red ripe strawberry. Sometimes she shares it with me! This story is so much fun and you never actually see the big hungry bear except the shadow on the back of the book. Definitely in the top 3 of children's books!

This is a fabulous book. Beautiful Illustrations too. I first heard this story while teaching 2 yr. olds. I never saw a group of 18 kids this young sit through and entire story listening intently... (even though they've heard it tons of times) then yelling, "Again, Again!" when it was finished. The expressions the mouse makes are priceless.
Now I have children of my own and they too love the little Mouse.

As a Grandma, I've bought this book more than once for different grandchildren. It's an all-time favorite of mine! But the reviews I'm reading say the reader is the narrator. Nope. It's the Big Hungry Bear who is leading the mouse to share the strawberry! Since I've bought different editions, I've seen that not all of them show the shadow of the bear on the last page. When we read this story, we are the voice of the Big Hungry Bear!

Little ones love to knnow what comes next in a book. That is why tey say "read it again" all the time. My 26 month old boy can finish every page for me. His favorite word in the whole book is disguise and he pronounces it perfectely.
