A classic September 8, 2009 Scott Mw Haufe (florida) Every orthopod should have one. Yes, it is basic information but it is also a great reference source.
Limited, outdated, inferior to several other similar texts March 18, 2009 J. T. Stasiak (San Diego, CA) Stanly Hoppenfeld has written some excellent books (e.g. surgical exposures, orthopaedic neurology) but unfortunately this is not one of them. Our understanding of the pathomechanics of the musculoskeletal system has advanced considerably since 1976 when this text was published. As others have pointed out, there are several important tests that are omitted and the illustrations are mediocre at best. Diagnoses such as shoulder superior labral tears, HAGL lesions, posterolateral corner knee injuries, etc. are not mentioned. This book might be OK for some practitioners, but for physicians it just doesn't cut it. My personal favorite is Bruce Reider's "The Orthopaedic Physical Examination." Some people like MaGee's "Orthopedic Physical Assessment,"-- I don't--but even that book is better than this one. If you need a book on the musculoskeletal examination, choose a different book---there are many better choices out there.
Great buy... December 24, 2008 Juan C. Herraez (Pueblo, CO) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book was very helpful during my ortho rotation.
I would highly recommend getting this book if you don't feel comfortable with your ortho physical exam skills.
Definitely a book that I will keep for future reference.
Physical Examination of the Spine and Extremities December 24, 2008 Susan A. Gibson (WHITTIER, CA United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The product came in a timely manner and was exactly what was stated. New textbook at a reasonable price.
Great find! October 27, 2008 C. Mccrory (Conway, AR, USA) One of my Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) asked me to try to find an older book another provider used for x-rays. Lo and behold there were 4 copies to pick from! It's really a great way to share books so they are used by people who need them.
