5 out of 5 stars Welcome to the real world   August 10, 2009
E. Johnson (El Cajon, CA United States)
Every high school student needs guidance for his/her future. If I had to choose one, then this one is it because it not only is written in an engaging way but deals with vital issues while utilizing scriptural references. One fo the strong points to "Welcome to College" is how it deals with issues related to faith, including a straightforward handling of tough questions that are certain to be raised by skeptical professors. He also deals with topics like dating, movies, and alcohol. The author is a student from the apologetic-minded Biola University, and his vast experience with the teen-age crowd is obvious. I gave a copy to my nephew for his graduation present, with a promise of $100 cash if he read it and did the questions at the end. I'm hoping he finishes it before the fall semester begains, because I don't think there's anything more valuable I could give him than to have him read and study this resource. And I can only pray that he will not lose his faith as so many young, well-meaning Christian teens do. Hopefully, some preventative medicine will help.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to a good book   June 26, 2009

I bought "Welcome to College" on the recommendation of a friend, which recommendation was largely based on the reputation of the author - Jonathan Morrow.

My intent was to give it to graduating high school seniors as a gift.
As I read it, I kept saying things like "This is exactly what I would say to a college student, if I were a better speaker...".

I believe that Morrow has struck just the right balance between traditional Christian morality, practical advice, and modern culture. And he has expressed this balance in a very readable style.

Buy this book - 2 copies of it - one to give away to a college-bound freshman and one to read yourself.

5 out of 5 stars The one book college students won't want to return!   July 16, 2008

Every high school senior should have this book in their hands before they enter college! I wish I had this book a long time ago! The chapters are suprisingly short, but packed with so much information to prepare them for what they will face in the future. The theology is solid, the advice is practical, and the resources give the student extra information. The study guide in the back makes this book useful for individual and small group use.

1 out of 5 stars Why go to college?   July 14, 2008

Why waste the tuition money if you're going with your mind hermetically sealed shut by a bunch of Bronze Age myths?

5 out of 5 stars A college minister review   June 23, 2008

This is being typed quickly because my day is chaotic at the moment :) But, overall, it's a
homerun! I work with Campus Crusade for Christ so it is very pertinent to my work. I read it quickly and enjoyed it personally very much. I think it's
very applicable because it is readable and covers many topics. Students
today have very short attention spans. I think your book answers and
instructs very well. For many, it will also invite deeper study and be an
appetizer for topics they've overlooked and/or been passive about. I like
that you've included the Big Ideas section after each chapter. That's
different. I also like the font, layout, bullet points, and numbering. I
think that it is graphically more inviting to a generation like this. It's such a
refreshment from text heavy, theologically stuffy books. I can tell you know
your stuff, don't flaunt it, but instead have a compassionate and
instructing tone.
