Amazon.com Review Coach Wooden's remarkable 10 national basketball championships in 12 years at UCLA speak for themselves. In Wooden, the coach--quiet, thoughtful, and introspective throughout his distinguished career--finally speaks forhimself, and he's well worth hearing. Wooden is a modern chapbook of inspiration and good sense that reveals the hard-court philosopher behind it as a man of character, conviction, decency, and straightforwardness. There are no complex ideas, just little beams of light filtered through anecdotes that project the kinds of simple, immutable truths that in the end touch nothing but net.
Product Description
Evoking days gone by when coaches were expected as much for their off-court performance as for their success on the court, this unique and intimate work presents the timeless wisdom of legendary basketball coach John Wooden. In honest and telling passages about virtually every aspect of life, Wooden shares the important personal philosophies that helped make him the winningest coach of all time.

Not just for coaches or players! October 14, 2009 Kevin Sivils - KCS Basketball Enterprises (Katy, TX) Wooden was perhaps the greatest basketball coach ever. His basketball wisdom and ideas on excellence and leadership development are timeless. All of his books are must reads for a basketball coach and most players.
But this little blue book is for anyone. It truly is the wisdom of Wooden.
I don't really know how else to describe it. This book is not so much about basketball as it is life and how to do it the right way.
I gave this little book to every player who graduated from my program. My copy is beat up, underlined, dog-eared, and highlighted. I cannot tell you how many times I have read it and learned something from it with each reading.
The only book I know of that has more wisdom and allows you to learn from each reading is the Bible.

Game Strategies and Tactics for Basketball: Bench Coaching for Success
Must have for any coach! June 11, 2009 Elliot G. Rotvold (Hillsboro, ND) This book is one that all coaches should own. It not only teaches some important basketball lessons, but more importantly, life lessons. Coaches have a great influence on their players. This book will be a great help for any coach. John Wooden is the epitome of a great coach.

One of the best books I've ever read. I received it as a gift a couple of years ago, and I now give this as a gift to almost everyone. (It's not about basketball).... it's about LIFE
A master teacher's thinking on life and work November 16, 2008 Eric May 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This small book by one of the most renowned sports figures of all time has less to do with Coach Wooden's winning records as a player and coach as it does with his broader views on what defines a "winner" - in attitude, in action, and in thought. As applicable in the business world as it is for athletics, this book, reflecting the author's example, is deeply profound and profoundly modest. Highly recommended.
Wooden's Words September 8, 2008 Jill Mitchell (Eagle, ID USA) I felt that this was a nice "thought for a day" book. He offers some very sound and basic ways of living with values. It is a quick read and enjoyable.
