5 out of 5 stars Great for injury self-management   May 28, 2009

Had broken arm (sports injury). I felt that my Kaiser medical professionals' explanations of injury, treatment and rehabilitation were not informative enough. Got this book and was very happy because it explains things THOROUGHLY! Am making good rehab progress because I'm doing exercises that the book shows and explains (exercises that my Physical Therapist hadn't shown or given to me).

The book is intended for professional Physical Therapists, but it is excellent for physically-active lay people who are willing to take some time and effort to learn about human physiology and some technical/medical terminology.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I also bought Trail Guide to the Body: How to Locate Muscles, Bones, and More (3rd Edition)--another good reference book.

This is a recommended book for 1 of my PTA classes. It is huge and has a ton of useful information.

5 out of 5 stars Comprehensive   December 16, 2008

I am a PTA (physical therapist assistant) student and also a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. I bought this book because it looked very interesting and helpful for all three. I was thrilled to get it, there is so much information, all research-backed. An added bonus is that it is on my book list for next quarter. I've also recently learned that one of the authors, Carol Kisner, is often quoted for her cutting edge research. So while I haven't read the book cover to cover yet, it looks very good. It is important to know that information on exercise - therapeutic or otherwise is backed by current research - you don't want to pass on ineffective or dangerous techniques to your clients, patients, students or anyone else who puts their trust in you.
