Product Description
Through real-life stories, the full-color, 256-page Changing Our World: True Stories of Women Engineers celebrates the contributions of women engineers to every aspect of modern life. Explore the lives and careers of hundreds of women engineers of all ages and backgrounds—extraordinary women who serve as role models to tell the untold story of engineering. These inspirational stories will give you a fresh perspective on engineering. As a fundamental resource for educational outreach programs, Changing Our World offers young women inspiration and encouragement to pursue careers in engineering. When placed in school libraries and counseling centers, the book provides girls and their parents with an exciting exploration into what is possible. Publication of Changing Our World represents a significant milestone for the Extraordinary Women Engineers Project—a collaborative effort of many different individuals and organizations to address the long-standing underrepresentation of women in the engineering profession.

Customer Reviews:
5 out of 5 stars Changing Our World: True Stories of Women Engineers   May 25, 2009
Phyllis Houghton (Pleasanton, CA USA)
Excellent book. Packed full with interesting historical and current information about women in engineering. An excellent source for a History of Women class. A tribute to the contributions American women have made including 26 astronauts who were engineers. Photos are great.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!   December 13, 2006
M. K. Schmidt
This book gives insight into how engineering affects our daily life. It also is inspiring to read how real women developed their passion into careers. Great gift for young adults.

5 out of 5 stars All Engineers Would Be Proud   August 10, 2006
J. A. Comeau (Portland, ME United States)
This gorgeously created and illustrated 'coffee table' book is one I've recommended to all my woman engineer friends. Also useful for Guidance Counselors, parents of young girls, (actually, my nephew admits to paging through it too!) and anyone who is interested in what engineers really do. The fact that it highlights women is great for us women, but don't let it mislead you. The information, the ideas, the extremely well-written text (plainspeak, hurray!) will inspire anyone male or female who enjoys the business of 'solving problems'.

5 out of 5 stars Changing Our World   May 2, 2006
Jill M. Tarabula (Williamsville, NY USA)
Many people may not realize it, but engineers' work touches nearly every aspect of our lives. This full-color account celebrates the lives of more than 200 women involved in all disciplines of engineering from aerospace to agriculture, and entertainment to environment. Fourteen inspiring chapters introduce these women of science and their journeys into once male-dominated professions, chronicling their success stories. The final chapter challenges young women to "follow their hearts" and consider a career in engineering. The book features an index of women profiled who have truly "changed our world."
