Product Description
This text presents a totally nursing-focused framework for teaching and learning nursing pharmacology, and "places the patient" at the center of all drug and drug administration decisions and considerations. The book presents core drug knowledge using prototypes of different drug classes and emphasizes core patient variables that influence the patient's response to therapy. Features include abundant review questions, concept maps, drug summary tables, drug interaction tables, and critical thinking scenarios that teach students how to apply pharmacology knowledge to patient care. This thoroughly updated Third Edition covers newly approved drugs, has separate chapters on drugs affecting fungal and viral infections, and includes more pathophysiology information. Black Box warnings from the FDA labels have been added to the discussion of each prototype when applicable, and safety alerts have been added to emphasize prevention of common medication errors. A companion Website offers student and instructor ancillaries including NCLEX(R)-style chapter review questions, pathophysiology animations, medication administration videos, and dosage "Doody's Core Titles 2009." calculation quizzes.

| Customer Reviews: Great November 1, 2009 R. Resaul This book has many great features that make understanding the drugs much easier. I love the fact that there is always drugs that are selected as a prototype from each drug category and has a detailed discussion such as its Side effects, available forms, its action and such...i love the layout it is well organized easing the level of understanding
Great pharmacology text! February 5, 2009 Helen L. (New York) This book has been a great help as I didn't have separate pharm course in my AAS Nursing curriculum. We studied drugs by ourselves instead. The book gives you physiology of body system and pathophysiology of some diseases at the beginning of each chapter. Prototype drugs are described in detail, drugs closely related to prototype and drugs different from prototype are given later. The authors give you little MEMORY CHIPs for each prototype medication, which is great.
Well organized textbook March 29, 2008 MH9150 (Minneapolis) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This text is very well organized. Every chapter starts with an overview of the relevant physiological concepts. They present a Prototypical drug for each class and then compare/contrast the other drugs in that class against the prototype. The amount of information contained in the book is overwhelming (due to the nature of the subject), but the easy to understand layout and consistent use of tables and figures make it much easier to digest. The explanations of how the drugs work are clearly written. The only drawback is that it doesn't contain a glossary, so I need to keep a medical dictionary nearby while studying.
Drug Therapy in Nursing October 8, 2007 JA Sweet 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is great for Pharmacology in Nursing. I learn more from this book than I do than any other Pharmacology Nursing book there is out there. Dianne makes it so easy to learn Pharmacology and want to learn and in a way you remember it.
Workbook is very helpful accompaniment to book. May 17, 2007 M. Kent (Pittsburgh, PA USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
