Pretty unhelpful October 31, 2009 L. Morton 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Overall I found this book to be incredibly unhelpful and a waste of time.
I suppose that if you struggled in high school and you never learned anything about studying this book would be worthwhile to you. It has a lot of basic, no-brainer tips that most college students should know.
I was highly disappointed with the fact that the author is extremely unrealistic about time. He outlines sophisticated ways of taking notes, writing, and studying yet he declares over and over that you won't spend much time on your homework. You should be able to skim almost everything and magically do these sophisticated, and what I see as time-consuming, techniques. If anything this lowered my sense of self-efficacy for a bit because I felt like something must be wrong with me if I "grind" through homework using techniques I devised in my own academic career that are similar to his. He must be blessed with an incredible memory or something to complete work so quickly!
Instead of reading this book I would recommend you read "Study Smarter Not Harder" by author Kevin Paul.
The absolute BEST college book September 27, 2009 E. Banner 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this book at just the right time; summer after high school graduation. I am implying all the processes described in this book and have aced all of my tests so far. I do not like to think where I would be without it.
This book has made such a huge difference so far in my college career, and I am not even half way through my first semester! His advice on how to handle procrastination and note taking are just some of the few ways my college career is off to a sizzling start!
I have already recommend this book to multiple students beginning college and would recommend it to anyone that wants to get the most out of their college career.
5/5. Great book, Cal.
Outstanding Resource! September 17, 2009 LizzyG 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is the best I've found on study techniques and management approaches for two reasons:
1)The chapters are short, concisely written and to the point. There is little verbiage exploring WHY you need the book. It's pretty much assumed you know you need the help and are interested in pursuing it.
2)The suggestions are intensely practical. No airy fairy theory, no complicated processes - just sturdy, field proven techniches for making the most of the time and resources you have.
I'm CLEPing and DSST-ing my way through a sizeable portion of my degree and this book is the lynch pin of my successes. It works!

A Must For Students August 21, 2009 A. Quinn (United States) I LOVE this book! I am heading off for my first year in college in about two weeks, and I know without a doubt that this book has saved me from much pain and meaningless hours of unprofitable study time. My plan was to just jump on the boat of tradition of how the normal student studies and prepares for class. I am so thankful that Cal has showed us a better, more effective way!! His book makes sense and is very practical. I love how he gives examples of how students can apply step by step the ideas he presents.
I desire to do well in college and now that I've read this book I believe I can. Now that I know how to study effectively and use my time wisely, I am confident of my journey ahead. Thank you so much, Cal, for your excellent book!!
