Great book, Great Value! November 8, 2009 Gayle J. Wright (Michigan) The book came to me in great condition. It arrived here quickly. I would order from Amazon.com again and again. Great service! Thank You! Gayle Wright
Extremely helpful book! November 7, 2009 A. Harmon (Indiana) I bought this book after I decided to have surgery to help myself better understand what I was getting myself into, and now I am almost 4 weeks post-op (RNY). This book was (and continues to be) been my go-to reference for just about everything. From preparing yourself for surgery to what to expect in the hospital, from the crazy mix of emotions you go through when you return home to post-op recipes, from how to deal with friends/family/coworkers to how to deal with yourself months down the road, this book has it all. It's an invaluable wealth of information, well laid out and easy to read and understand. This book is a must-have for anyone who is considering having, going to have, or recently had weight loss surgery of any kind. You'll go back to it again and again with questions about what to expect or what you experienced, and you will find the answers!
Worth Reading October 23, 2009 A New Me (Sharpsville, PA) I am currently in the process of being approved for gastric bypass surgery. I wanted a book that I could read that would be honest (non-biased), informative, and easy to understand. Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies provided all that and more. It provides every aspect of the process, what to expect before the surgery, such as testing and nutritional meetings, how to deal with insurance companies, recipes that provide protein value, carbs/sugar, and calorie breakdown. It deals with the emotional ups and downs, remembering that this is for you and conquering your weight. It also contains stories of people that have gone through the surgery and what problems they had, if any. I would highly recommend this book for anyone that is going to have weight loss surgery or are thinking about getting the surgery, including people that plan on having the gastric band, as information regarding both procedures is included in the book.
THE ONLY BOOK THAT I'LL NEVER GET RID OF September 17, 2009 M. Hoth (appleton wisconsin) this book is my bible and has been since way before my WLS. i used it to get all the facts down to present to my physicians, for permission from them to have the surgery. even my psychiatrist was very impressed. i let her know about the different types of WLS and which one i had chosen and why. i found that alot of people have trouble getting the approval from all of the necessary doctors to have it done. i have about 6 other books on WLS but this is by far the best. even now, being over 3yrs. out from my surgery, i still refer to it to refresh myself when i have questions about some of the weird physical feelings i'm experiencing. it'll usually just say that what i'm feeling is normal and don't worry about it. my surgeon is over 6 hrs. away, so this book is fantastic for me. i'm going to be selling some of my other books about WLS, but never, ever this one.
Wonderful resource! September 15, 2009 M. O'Connor (Ohio) This book is a wonderful reference and resource book for people who are considering having weight loss surgery or for people who know someone who is having weight loss surgery. It's a very straight forward book that gives you answers to many questions about what to do before, during, and after surgery. It covers everything from general inquiries about different types of surgeries, to insurance approval, recipes for different stages of healing/losing, and successful tips for the rest of your life. It's the first book I turned to when I started researching weight loss surgery!
