Product Description
While other books either concentrate on statistical theory or on the functions of the popular computer program SPSS, Andy Field integrates the two to provide the student with a thorough grounding in statistics through learning to use SPSS.

The book is designed to answer all the questions a student asks when using SPSS to analyse their data. Each statistical test is introduced in a clear and accessible way, with examples of how to run an analysis in SPSS.

The book covers in detail the following:

Exploring data, Correlation, Regression, LOGISTIC Regression, Comparing Means (t-tests), ANOVA, Complex ANOVA (GLM), MANOVA, Factor Analysis

Andy Field has written an up-to-date student-oriented text book with the aim of making the learning of advanced statistics and using SPSS as painless as possible.

The book includes a CD-Rom with SPSS datasets and examples from the book and the author provides a website for further help and updates. The book is suitable for use with SPSS versions 7.0, 7.5, 8.0 and above.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book! Must buy for any undergrad and grad student   November 12, 2009
M. Luse
Discovering Stats is the best Stats book I have ever used! I am a Phd student, so of course I have to take a lot of Stats classes. I can not say enough about the great job Andy Field does in breaking down formulas and explaining each step of the process in a concise, to the point manner and how to use SPSS. I am never confused in reading this book and use at as my main text in replace of the class text book. Every other text I have ever had gets blown out of the water by this one. I wish I had this in undergrad.

This book will teach you how to do it but more important why you are doing it and why you should not do it. Skip all the long reviews and just buy it.

4 out of 5 stars It is a statistics book   August 30, 2009

The first week of classes are over. I find the text to be helpful so far, but this is just the beginning of the semester. Kind of funny, quite wordy, but I like it so far. After all, it is a statistics book!

5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended   August 21, 2009

Field's revision of his text, which may already be considered a classic, is outstanding and certainly the best of the SPSS-oriented texts. He certainly has mastered the art of clearly presenting complex topics. The book is an interesting read, although I personally find his frequent attempts at humor to sometimes be rather infantile and/or odd. The presentation of MANOVA and its relation to discriminant analysis is excellent, but I wish that there had been a discussion of MANCOVA. In spite of these caveats, highly recommended for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students.
