Product Description Shelby American gained almost instant recognition from the moment the first Cobra hit the street. The entire original Cobra/Ford GT/Shelby Mustang period spanned just over eight years, eight years filled with countless racing accomplishments, the World Manufacturer's Championship, a 1-2-3 finish at LeMans, you name it and Shelby won it. The underdog did it, and to this day we are still rooting for him. And deservedly so. The stories and accomplishments are legendary, but none more so than what can only be described as the magic this company and its cars possess to this day. It was the perfect storm. Shelby found the right ingredients, the right talent, the right sponsors, the right drivers, and enough unbridled enthusiasm to take what some had called "a bunch of junk" out into the world and not come home until there wasn't a challenge they didn't win. Call it what you will - dumb luck, stubbornness, or just being in the right place at the right time, nobody can deny that we will never see the likes of anything like Shelby ever again. The Complete Book of Shelby is just that - a complete listing of Shelby automobiles. It is the story of every car ever touched by that Shelby magic. From Cobras to Mustangs, race cars to street cars, AC Cars to Toyota, it is your ticket to knowing a little more about every vehicle that Shelby "messed with" as the big Texan would say. Like anybody else, and any other manufacturer, Shelby had its ups and downs. There were great cars and cars we'd rather forget. But the story is indeed one of legend, and larger than life. The tale and the cars transcend traditional boundaries. It doesn't matter if you are a Chevy person or a European car enthusiast, a drag racer or a road racer, into NASCAR or sports cars, or even if you're not even really a "car person" there is something about Shelby that appeals to us all. It is an American success story. And not one of us can ever deny we always respect the underdog who beat all the odds to come out on top. That, in a nutshell, is the story of Shelby American. And every one of the cars that follows has that DNA in it. Grab a copy of the Complete Book of Shelby, fasten your lap belt, and enjoy the ride.

Best Shelby book out there November 8, 2009 David A. Hidalgo 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book, unlike previous efforts on the topic, tells the entire Shelby story from the early 260 Cobras to today's monster Shelby GT500s. While most books have featured a narrow band of Shelby history illustrated with vintage black and white photos, this one covers the entire spectrum with a balanced combination of old black and white photos (many not seen before) and a plethora of crisp color photos taken in more recent times. Every model, both old and new, is deliciously illustrated.
This book is complete in comprehensively documenting not only the better known Shelby efforts but all of the side trips he made as well (Sunbeam Tiger, Viper, Toyota 2000 GT, Shelby Dodges, Series 1). The author's passion and expertise permeate the book. While authoritative, the text is easy to read due to an engaging prose style. This book is a must buy for both new and established collectors of the marque as well as those with a more general interest in one of the greatest automotive success stories in America.
Its not a book; its an encyclopedia! November 6, 2009 Ronald S. Krolick (New York, NY USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It is hard to imagine how many years it took Mr. Comer to educate himself, accumulate the inventory of photographs, and then write it all down in such an entertaining manner for this book. I confess that I do not have the aptitude or stamina to even begin to accomplish a task such as this. I am very glad though that Comer did, and even more so that I can own a copy for less than the cost of a mediocre bottle of wine. This is the seminal survey of all that is Shelby - the man as viewed by each and every one of his creations. I admit to being a loyal and steadfast fan of Mr. Shelby, and in fact had my first experience with one of his creations in 1966 at the wheel of a GT350 H outrunning an Ohio State Trooper. Today, over forty years later, I own a collection of original Shelbys and learned more from Comer's book in one weekend than the last twenty years of attending Shelby meets. While impressive works like the SAAC Registry exist, I have never seen a book on Shelby like this one. It is long overdue and much welcomed. The question is not really whether you should purchase this book but instead, how many you should buy so that when your buddies steal a copy you aren't missing the best book ever written on the subject.
Excellent book November 4, 2009 Shelby Fan (usa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just finished reading Colin Comer's new book "Shelby" and it provides an
excellent overview of the cars that Carroll Shelby built or inspired. After
more than 45 years, there are not many car enthusiasts who do not know who
Carroll Shelby is or what a Cobra is. The car is a legend. Right behind it
are the Shelby Mustangs. But there are dozens of separate models of these
two cars that are not as well known. Colin Comer does an excellent job in
describing them and explaining where they fit in the Shelby story.
Beyond the original cars built from 1961 to 1970, there were a large number
of other cars that Shelby was involved with, either directly or indirectly.
The guy has been going practically non-stop through the 1980s, 1990s and he
is still going today. He is the Energizer Bunny of the automotive world. Not
all of these cars have come up on the enthusiast radar yet and it can all be
very confusing. This book identifies them and cuts through the confusion.
When taken as a group, they form one man's legacy.
The pictures in this book, alone, are worth the price. They are used to
answer questions and explain things that are hard for the average enthusiast
to understand. If you like Cobras and Shelbys you will love this book. If
you want to learn more about them there is no better place to go. Comer
should be congratulated for providing some order and logic to a subject
which has been all over the board.
The Complete Book of Shelby Automobiles November 3, 2009 Alex Finigan 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I buy a lot of car books, and mostly just scan the photos.
Colin's book is different.
Besides the incredible period pictures, most of which I've never seen before,
his keen knowledge of Shelby's comes through in the text.
This is not someone who got an assignment to write a car book.
He loves these automobiles, and it shows.
Kudos.
Highly recommended.
Finally a book worthy of the man and his cars! October 26, 2009 L. Quam 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My first car was a 69 Shelby Mustang GT 350 convertible and I drove it everyday from 1974 until 1984 and have been a student of Shelby and his cars ever since. Presently as an owner of three vintage Shelby Mustangs and two new Shelby Supersnakes I continue to drive and enjoy Shelby's rolling works of art and have probably read every book ever written about him including the SAAC registry cover to cover. Colin Comer's Sequel to his best selling Million Dollar Muscle car book is simply in my view the first Shelby book worthy of the man and his cars. More importantly even if your not a car person Comer's writing style is witty and irreverent making it an easy and fascinating historical read for anyone curious about a certified American icon. Carroll Shelby will be remembered as one of the two or three most significant people in automotive history and this book artfully takes you along for the ride on one of the best adventures anyone ever turned into a life.
