MS SQL Server 2005 Appplied Techniques September 3, 2009 Ricardo Martinez This book is great for starters. The techniques the book has are all strictly by the book. I think this is one of the easiest books to understand especially in the security section. I have read other books about sql server maintenance and I did not quite understand what it was talking about when it came to security. Another good chapter about this book is the queering performance, it shows how to use the execution plan and that was a great help to me. Microsoft Press did a really good job on this book, like I said it is very easy to understand the concepts.
Not very good August 11, 2008 A. Bovaird I'm about 1/2 way through this book and probably going to stop reading it. It's really just a general overview of SQL Server 2005, and is really unhelpful if you actually want to learn to use the software.
Mediocre overview of SQL 2005 February 1, 2008 J. P. Van Bosch (-) overview of all aspects but not as clear as could be, lot's of pre-knowledge about visual basic is assumed and not that clearly organized. There are a lot better books out there.
Mostly focused on SQL statements for developers and DBA's September 27, 2007 B. P. Hinds (Orange, CA) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
There is nothing in this book that you can not find in another more organized book.
Horrible! June 5, 2007 B. G. Nealis (Ohio, USA) 4 out of 17 found this review helpful
I have yet to find a book by Microsoft Press that is well-written, and this one is the worst of them all. It was certainly a waste of my money. There are many other books on SQL 2005 that are far better.
