Cute, but short books! September 20, 2009 S. Adams This book set is cute. The books are fun but very short! Overall, I am pleased with our purchase.
a beautiful introduction to the world of books September 13, 2009 G. Wells (NYC, USA) this book is fantastic for babies (a warm message, interactive & engaging flaps, easy and clear language, etc) but also my kindergartner loves reading this book -- and the words are well targeted (not too many silent E's, tricky blends ("ph", "th") or other challenging "tricks of English"... and the pictures match the words so even when kids can't sound the word out, they can look at the picture for a good clue, and the patterns and repetition in Katz's writing make for a supportive, constructive reading & learning experience.)
These are top-notch, high-quality books that will excite -- and not frustrate -- your child as they enter the world of books and reading.
Engaging books for young "readers" July 6, 2009 EC (LA, CA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My daughter is 1 1/2 and just LOVES this set of books. The lift the flap reveals "surprises" that she can actually verbalize. When I go through all of the books at bedtime, these are inevitably the ones that are always reached for.
My complaint (and the 4 vs. 5 stars) is that, for instance in the "Where Is Baby's Belly Button" book, instead of the question being "what is under the shirt?...BELLY BUTTON" it's phrased "where is baby's belly button?...UNDER THE SHIRT". it's just a harder phrase for a toddler; it's easier to answer "belly button" or "mouth" rather than "under the shirt" or "behind the cup". But, it's still a fun book that keeps her engaged.
Great Buy! June 9, 2009 N. Keeling (Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My son loves these books. He laughs everytime we read them. It's also helping me teach where his nose, ears, etc are.
not impressed June 7, 2009 A. Howe (Indiana) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Because the flaps are cardstock (instead of cardboard), they can rip easily and are not easily lifted off the page by pudgy little hands. The illustrations are simplistic and unattractive. My son loves lift-the-flap books, but he doesn't love these.
