Product Description Junie B. Jones knows what she wants to be when she grows up -- a beauty
shop guy! All she needs is a little practice. Okay, a lot of practice. And a
few volunteers. Like her bunny slippers. And her dog. And maybe even...herself?

Junie B Jones is insufferable! October 26, 2009 Avid Reader (California) Ok, I know these books are really really popular and I get it: the really poor grammar and "cutesy/funny" situations that Junie B gets herself into probably delights many beginning readers and their parents, BUT........
Maybe it's just me, but I find the main character, Junie B to be incredibly babyish and, well, how can I put it politely: mentally challenged.
How many Kindergarteners actually say things like "bestest" or describe their teacher as "That guy". My daughter, age 6 and a first grader, actually asked me if there might be something wrong with Junie B Jones. "Mama, why does Junie B Jones do things a little baby might do like cut off all her hair? Isn't she supposed to be about my age?"
Anyway, the books have been banned from our house. I put them in the same category as Barney.
There are plenty of other great books out there for beginning readers that don't insult your child's intelligence.
Hilarious! September 17, 2009 cilisi If your child is a misbehaving imp, or tends in that direction, I would probably skip these books and look for a better model since Junie B. cannot be relied on to be a good example (the opposite, in fact). My daughter is a kind of "goody-goody" by-the-rules kid. If your kid is like that, I doubt she'd be damaged by these books. My daughter loves to disapprove of Junie B's behaviour. Her only regret is that the punishments meted out to her are not as severe as what she would give.
I originally stayed away from these books because of the grammar reviews but when I was out of the country our babysitter introduced them (the French versions). They were the first chapter books my daughter read in French (her second language). She thought the grammatical errors - which were easy for her to detect even with only first grade French (and easier in her native English) -- were hilarious. Kids who capable of reading these books have long since given up constructions like "bestest." I believe kids who read these books will be amused and will read more. With these chapter books under their belt, they'll move on to better literature.
Quite possibly the funniest book ever written. May 8, 2009 Katherine S. Brokaw (Ann Arbor, MI) I have read this book aloud to girls and boys, men and women, aged 4 to 90 and everywhere in between, and it's never failed to crack my audience up.
Junie B. Jones, or as she's called in this book, Pinkie Gladys Gutzman, is at her most hilarious in this funniest book of the funniest series going for kids. And for adults. --Katie Brokaw
Terrible Series January 28, 2009 J. Ballweg 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I can't imagine more inappropriate reading for a 5-8 year old. These books are loaded with poor grammar, individual words that are too advanced and, on top of that, they encourage bad behavior. Avoid this series.
Reader beware! August 1, 2008 K. Wright (USA) Cute book as all of the other Junie B. books, but beware! I read this story to my kindergarten class and one child decided to try his hand at being a 'beauty shop guy' himself! He cut about 2 inches off of one little girl's long blond hair and a big chunk out of his own. I won't read it again to my kinders.
