best resource to explain dyslexia October 10, 2009 private psychologist (Australia) This is a great resource for both parents and professionals in that it explains the nature of dyslexia in easy to understand terms based on neuropsychological research.
A wealth of information September 11, 2009 Tebbi Purvis (Tampa, FL) A wonderful resource both if you suspect dyslexia or if you already have a confirmed diagnosis. Tremendously helpful in understanding what dyslexia is and how to help your child or someone you love with this difference.
The foremost authority on the subject September 9, 2009 Joy Martinez (Dallas, TX, USA) I starting reading several books on the subject of dyslexia to build a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by my son and to develop stategies to help him. Every book went back to quoting from the research of Dr. Sally Shaywitz. I decided to put the rest down and read the book based on her work. Though this book is not light reading for the average parent, it is information that every teacher should be familiar with.
overcoming dyslexia: a new and complete science-based August 18, 2009 the book is great but i can't believe text to speech is disabled with this particular book! how is someone who wants to learn how to improve their reading suppose to have access? that is one of te kindles redeeming features.
Helpful Scientific Basis August 7, 2009 Special Ed Mama (Pittsfield, MA) A wonderful book whose basis on brain imaging confirms what many good reading teachers have known all along--teaching phonemes and using a multisensory approach is necessary. Her case studies were very encouraging, as were the examples of problems encountered and methods used with older students.
