5 out of 5 stars Finally, I think I'm beginning to understand CSS, and a lot more   March 6, 2010
MADbookshelf (Port Saint Lucie, FL USA)
I felt I really understood FrontPage, but was a bit floored with Expression 2. And when I got Expression Web 3, I was even more confused. Then I got this book. It took me through what I knew and I learned some new things along the way.

About midway through, going got slower, but I plugged along and came out the other side with a much better understanding of what the program can do ... and why. He really goes step by step. I didn't worry too much about the last couple chapters (PHP, ASP) as they were beyond what I wanted to do ... and needed more details if I were to learn them.

I have a stack of books for this and previous programs and I've learned more from this one than all the others put together.

The illustrations are very helpful, so I'd question whether a Kindle edition would be as useful. Also, I had no luck getting the Flash or Silverlight files to work. (Yes, I do have both installed on my computer)

A beginner may have to take it slowly, but the information is there. Wish I'd had the previous book when I got Expression 2.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent handbook   February 15, 2010
Filip Baumruk
This handbook has really surprised me. It has slightly different stucture from other handbooks. However, this makes it unique. During the individual lectures one will learn how to build the full website from scratch. Additionally, you will learn WHY you are doing certain things. I recommend it to anyone interested in web development.

5 out of 5 stars Great help for a beginner, but has info for the advanced   February 10, 2010
Mac
I know about computers, but not much about building a web site. Since I love a challenge, I volunteered to make a web site for my retired teachers association. At first I used a very simple "drop and drag" that was available on the hosting site. I soon realized that I really could not do what I wanted. I downloaded a trial of MS Web Expression 3 and tried it out. Honestly, I got a basic site up and running in no time. Of course, I bought the program. But, I needed a way of learning about all that the program has to offer (which is a lot!). So I bought SAMS Teach Yourself MS Expression Web 3 in 24 hours. Now, as I learn about new portions of Expressions, I incorporate it into the web site. The book helped me immensely. I highly recommend the book.

5 out of 5 stars A complete course in web design in 24 hours!   February 10, 2010
C. Jacobson (HAYDEN, ID, US)
By following this course I was able to design and build a website that looks professional, applying advanced web design features. This book is written in clear concise prose that explain the intricacies of designing with CSS in terms that even the technologically challenged can understand! Every chapter is "sticky noted" and I am sure I will refer to this book time and again.

4 out of 5 stars Great for a first time Exp Web 3 user   February 8, 2010
D.B. Cooper (Sonoma, CA USA)
I moved from Frontpage to Expression Web and just could not fathom all the new stuff. This book walked me from the basics to moderate stuff, including CSS, menus, buttons, and more. The Silverlight stuff may be less than useless, but I'm sure it was a nod to Microsoft. I suspect Dreamweaver books have flash sections. (I need that.)

You will still need a more in-depth book on CSS, but just about every feature in EW3 is touched on in a straight forward manner.

Very helpful.
