Product Description The epic of the Apollo missions told in the astronauts' own words and gorgeously illustrated with their photographs
Andrew Chaikin's A Man on the Moon is considered the definitive history of the Apollo moon missions-arguably the pinnacle of human experience. Now, using never-before-published quotes taken from his in-depth interviews with twenty-three of the twenty-four Apollo lunar astronauts, Chaikin and his collaborator, Victoria Kohl, have created an extraordinary account of the lunar missions. In Voices from the Moon the astronauts vividly recount their experiences in intimate detail; their distinct personalities and remarkably varied perspectives emerge from their candid and deeply personal reflections. Carefully assembled into a narrative that reflects the entire arc of the lunar journey, Voices from the Moon captures the magnificence of the Apollo program like no other book. Paired with their own words are 160 images taken from NASA's new high-resolution scans of the photos the astronauts took during the missions. Many of the photos, which are reproduced with stunning and unprecedented detail, have rarely-if ever-been seen by the general public. Voices from the Moon is an utterly unique chronicle of these defining moments in human history.

Excellent "What was it like" book about going to the moon October 21, 2009 Barbara G. Harris (New Smyrna Beach, FL USA) This is not a comprehensive history of the Apollo program. There are several books that are written about that. This is a first person account about what it felt like to actually be in the drivers seat on the way to the moon and on the moon. No matter how many books you read about the Apollo program there is nothing like getting the description in the astronaut's own words and that is what this book does. It was captivating to hear what the astronauts were feeling and what was going through their heads as they left earth and landed on the moon. Out of all the books I have read on the Apollo program this book was the closes thing to sharing the emotions that the astronauts themselves felt. A great book to experience. The pictures in the book was just the icing on the cake to enhance the experience even more.
In their own words September 13, 2009 John P. Scott (Denver, CO) Chaikin captures the essence of the Apollo missions through the words of the only men who've been there. The words are sometimes profound and sometimes profane but always incredibly descriptive and meaningful. A truly great book.
A interesting book September 12, 2009 R. D. CUNHA (Porto Alegre, RS BRAZIL) I watched Armstrong and Aldrin landing on the Moon in 1969, and I'll never forget that image. But reading this book, which contains so many different testimonies of the astronauts that went to our natural satellite, one can not but wonder at how, despite all the difficulties, they manage to go there. It is also interesting to compare the first and the last astronauts views, reflecting on the subtle changes of the Apollo programme - from an epic, almost like the Odissey, first flights, to a more specialized, scientific role at the end.
Great text and photos August 22, 2009 David Shomper (Boulder, CO USA) Great photos and format. Some of the short little quotes made me feel I was sitting in a bar with these guys just chatting.
Hopefully some of these photos will whittle down the membership list in the "We Never Went to the Moon" club.
Out of the Mouths of the Astronauts August 21, 2009 jay zactor (brooklyn, new york) There is simply no better way to read about the voyages to the moon than to read what the astronauts have to say about their experience. This book is my favorite book about the moon landings and walks. I have been waiting for such a book and when i saw it on the shelf recently it lept into my arms. The photos are superb and the comments are surprising, engaging, inspiring, disturbing, wondrous, amusing and revealing. I keep rereading them. They are a revelation of who the men are who made the journey and they say as much about those men as they do about their journey. You will quickly identify with some of the men and even be disturbed by others and certainly surprised and delighted as well. This book makes me appreciate the men who made the journey, some of whom are reticent yet they contribute. The comments at times elicit a smile or a laugh or raised eyebrow. They are all awesome and the photos are, too, with some new never seen before photos revealed. So get the book and get the story out of the mouths of the astronauts. These are stories that will be passed along forever, as they should be, and never forgotten.
