Product Description The Real Books are the best-selling jazz books of all time. Since the 1970s, musicians have trusted these volumes to get them through every gig, night after night. The problem is that the books were illegally produced and distributed without any copyrights or royalties paid to the master composers who created these musical canons. Hal Leonard is very proud to present the first legitimate and legal editions of these books ever produced. You and your customers won't even notice the difference...the covers look the same, the engravings look the same, the songlist is nearly identical, and the price remains fair even on a musician's salary! But every conscientious musician and music store owner will appreciate that these books are now produced legally and ethically, benefitting the songwriters that we owe for some of the greatest music ever written! 400 songs, including: All Blues * Au Privave * Autumn Leaves (Les Feuilles Mortes) * Black Orpheus * Bluesette * Body and Soul * Bright Size Life * Con Alma * Dolphin Dance * Don't Get Around Much Anymore * Easy Living * Epistrophy * Falling in Love with Love * Footprints * Four * Four on Six * Giant Steps * Have You Met Miss Jones? * How High the Moon * I'll Remember April * Impressions * Lullaby of Birdland * Misty * My Funny Valentine * Oleo * Red Clay * Satin Doll * Sidewinder * Stella by Starlight * Take Five * There Is No Greater Love * Wave * and more!

The Real Book Rocks! November 1, 2009 Amy Lake (Houston, TX, USA) The Real Book is the only book we rely on in jazz band at my school... only problem is that the binding is really flimsy, but I'll get that fixed at Kinko's!

Great collection of classic tunes. Well notated and very east to read on a gig!
the real book sixth edition July 11, 2009 Norman Grady (FLORIDA) In general most of the music arrangements were fine. I found that a number
suggested "solos" and inferred it meant solos from other instruments to be performed, and I play professionally SOLO.
Missing important tunes.. July 8, 2009 A. lee Clement (Palo Alto, Ca) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is not like the old fake books.. Many important jazz tunes missing. Newer crap tunes instead.. that I would never play.
Great price .. but lacking.
Your best choice for real jazz July 2, 2009 Jeffrey S. Smith (New England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This legal 6th edition version is becoming the new standard. Many gripe about missing tunes and different chord changes compared to 5th edition, which was used for 30 years, but complaints seem to come from folks who bought the bootleg 5th edition for $40-50 and can't accept that this newer legit version is only $20. Sour grapes, I think. You decide. Bootleg version is assembled from messy looking photocopies, is expensive, not always easy to find (it's illegal), and finding the Eb, Bb, and bass clef versions can be tough. This Hal Leonard version is clean and easy to read, songwriters are compensated, and readily available in all keys for a low price. Contrary to what some people have said, most musicians that play jazz DO use charts on the bandstand. Nowadays, this is the book to get.
