| Customer Reviews: On Alfred Nobel June 7, 2006 M Shepard (Sweden) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Dover Publications for children are all very nice. This publication is no exception. But it also serves as a reminder that everything in print is not necessarily true--or may have some innacuracies. Parents should teach their children to look up multiple sources for information.
In this book, the entry on Alfred Nobel, for example, states that he created the Nobel prizes in 1901, including a prize in economics. As small an error as this may seem to be, it is actually a monumental mistake. The Sveriges Riksbank (Bank of Sweden) Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel was created in 1968 much to the dismay of the majority of Swedes and certainly to the Nobel family. It is not one of the Nobel prizes, but remains, even today a price in "Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel." Nobel himself would have been disappointed in its creation.
