Product Description
A dynamic young leader shows how leading with love and respect creates success in business and life Written by the founder of Operation HOPE and advisor to the past two U.S. presidents, this groundbreaking book makes the case that the best way to get ahead is to figure out what you have to give to a world seemingly obsessed with the question: What do I get? Aimed at a new generation of leaders and extremely relevant for today's economic climate, Love Leadership outlines Bryant's five laws of love-based leadership-Loss Creates Leaders (there can be no strength without legitimate suffering), Fear Fails (only respect and love leads to success), Love Makes Money (love is at the core of true wealth), Vulnerability is Power (when you open up to people they open up to you), and Giving is Getting (the more you offer to others, the more they will give back to you). - One of today's most influential leaders, Bryant has appeared on Oprah and in articles in the LA Times, NY Times, and the Wall Street Journal
- Bryant's bold approach to leadership is well-suited for today's tough economic environment and a world gripped by fear and uncertainty
- Outlines the innovative five laws of love-based leadership
Love Leadership is that unique and powerful book that bridges the gap between solid business advice and pure inspiration.

Visionary Leadership November 11, 2009 Jim Abbey (Lakewood, Colorado) Yes, there is something new on the bookshelf in the management category. John provides insight into the new future for leaders and organizations based on a leadership of love not fear. John is the founder and CEO of HOPE, America's first nonprofit social investment banking organization. The book is filled with wisdom nuggets from a variety of leadership interviews and John's own hands on experience creating and leading HOPE. I love the five laws of love leadership: loss creates leaders, fear fails, love makes money, vulnerability is power and giving is getting. The content is rich and a great reader for new and old leaders alike.
To whom much is given much is expected November 9, 2009 D. Nyabuti (Saint Paul, MN USA) Some books you read when you have finished your work others you stop your work to read, this one falls in the latter category.
This book is a well written easy to read guide from which you can form your own love leadership. As you flip into the first page through the close of the cover, there isn't any new lesson that you get other than encouragement to be your authentic self. Mr. Bryant writes this book as an imperfect being who has learned through his failures. He serves as a perfect example for anyone in leadership or those who aspire to lead as a service to others.
I would recommend this book to anyone. I believe that this book will provide a guide for the 21st century leader and follower. Once you have read this book you will realize your potential in restoring hope and dignity to those around you.
Excellent!! October 25, 2009 Vicky R. Niblett (Washington, DC) Love Leadership is a book that you will have problems putting down once you start reading. I finished the book within just a few days and can truly say that John Hope Bryant's book is inspiring, especially to those who want to make a positive impact in today's world. His thoughts and ideas are inspiring and his book has a way of creeping back into my thoughts on a daily basis while I am at work leading my software development team or while I am running my nonprofit. Thank you, John, for giving so much of yourself to help others. What an amazing person and an amazing book!
A Truly Actionable Leadership Guide October 16, 2009 Arlen W. Gelbard (New York, NY USA) Over the years, I've read many management and leadership books, but none as "real" as this one. Rarely has a book about leadership been written in language that has such universal appeal, from entry-level to the C-suite, from leading in business to leading in the community. It's written in such a way that people on all levels can take away truly "actionable" thoughts from which they can make meaningful changes in their own lives as leaders.
As I turned the pages, I thought not only about how I've led in the past and can improve immediately, but also about other leaders with whom I've worked in the past. There is not a doubt in my mind that Mr. Bryant's thoughts on what is more effective and what is less effective is completely consistent with my experiences in over 25 years of working.
While I intend to give copies of this book to my entire team at work (perhaps as a holiday gift), the very first person to whom I'm going to give a copy of this book is my son, who is just starting out in his first (entry level) job out of college. While he already exhibits a number of the Love Leadership qualities as a young man, I'm confident that this book will help drive the messages home from a source other than his parents and one who he knows for whom I have great respect and admiration. Love Leadership should be "required reading" for all graduating students, whether from college or high school, as it's certainly easier to mold a leadership style in formation than changing an established one.
John Bryant has done a masterful job with this book. Typical of the approach to/with his life, this book will "give" to others much more than will be received in return.
It's hard to imagine who wouldn't benefit from reading this wonderful book....twice (at least). How much better the world would be if more people led in this manner!
A blueprint for leading in love (not just talking about it) October 14, 2009 Tan Theresa (Singapore) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It has been a long time since I've read a book that has left such a deep impression, and more importantly, given me an overwhelming sense of hope.
John Hope Bryant's Love Leadership doesn't so much teach new concepts as distill what great leaders of this past century have practiced and promoted -- Mother Teresa, Billy Graham, Gandhi.
But what this book does (and does powerfully) is make the five tenets that John Hope Bryant proposes, doable.
Bryant's searing honesty is the "special sauce" that makes the message stick. His personal anecdotes are shared without sugar-coating. And then there's his wonderful ability to make every statement a profound "quotable quote" ("You are the best asset and the worst obstacle in your life." "Loss fires your spirit, and it steels your mettle.")
I finished reading Love Leadership last Friday, and recommended it to a friend on Saturday who went to the bookstore in the next hour to buy it. I'm currently re-reading it and I think I will be re-reading it many times over, and putting Bryant's advice into practice. This book has given me a blueprint for how to take my organisation to the next level -- by going back a level and fixing the foundation. The story that sticks with me most is the one about how Operation HOPE found itself short on fulfilled pledges for 2008 because of the economic crisis. Most leaders would have accepted this as a natural side-effect of an ailing economy but not Bryant. He got in there, rolled up his sleeves and got to work raising funds. Operation HOPE ended the year raising more than what was originally pledged.
Bryant lives what he teaches: "Fear is a prosperity killer." "It takes the power of love to banish fear... that love takes the form of long-term business relationships built on caring and doing good." "Love leadership puts love into action."
So should we all.
