Product Description
Discover the program that has worked for hundreds of thousands of people, including countless celebrities and athletes, helping them to achieve permanent weight loss and healthier lives.

Turn Up the Heat provides a thoroughly documented food management system personalized to each individual's metabolic type-fat-and-protein efficient, carbohydrate efficient, or dually efficient. The system is comprised of three components: eating the right kinds and amounts of foods in the correct sequence; following a specific exercise program based on the individual's metabolic type; and drinking the appropriate amount of water daily. Including easy-to-use questionnaires to determine your metabolic type, weekly food plans, and a 2-week Quickstart plan, Turn Up the Heat will forever break the apathy and frustration of dieters who just never seem to get to their ideal weight.

3 out of 5 stars Good but complicated   November 16, 2009
Gretchen P. Johnston (Georgetown, Texas)
I purchased this book recently and read through it all in one night. The reason I could is that fully half the book is dedicated to menus and food plans for the various body types.

First of all, let me say that I have not tried this program. I found the concept of eating enough food and drinking enough water to make your metabolism run at 100% efficiency a compelling idea. I also like the fact that he differentiates between three metabolic types: Protein and fat efficient (which may be why Adkins works for so many); Carb efficient; and the "rare" dual metabolism which processes all three equally. According to Goglia, only 3% of the population have this type; I guess I am one of the lucky ones, because my lipid profile meets his requirements for that type. Finally, I really appreciate the fact that he acknowledges that bodies are dynamic, so you must constantly reevaluate your food needs and change them as your body changes.

If I needed to lose weight quickly and safely in a short amount of time, I would definitely turn to this program. Goglia's program requires that you eat seven times a day and drink one ounce of water for each pound of body weight daily; it also requires strict calorie counting and sticking to the plan exactly as it's laid out (if you get off track you have to go back and start over.) If you have the type of job and social life where this fits easily, then you may really like this program.

However, I have been dieting and losing weight for years; the issue for me is finding something that works with my own lifestyle. After reading the book, I believe that it is too complicated and restrictive for most people to follow for more than a short period of time. It may be good to jump start your metabolism, but I feel it would be hard to maintain over the long term. So, for me, it's not the perfect program.

That said, I did look at the menus for what someone of my weight and metabolic type should be eating and will adapt some of that in a way that I can use it. One question, though: Goglia says that "dual-efficient metabolisms" should eat 33.3% each of fat, protein and carbs. However, in all his menus he recommends using non-fat cooking sprays, and no added fats. I would think that olive oil would be a good source of some of that 33.3% fat, so I'm not sure why that's not included more.

I guess the biggest issue with the book is this: reviewers have shown success at losing large amounts of weight quickly with this plan. In my experience, anything that is too restrictive and has such quick results is going to be difficult for most people to keep up in the long term, unless they truly make these into lifelong behavioral changes.

This book shows you exactly how to eat in order to rev up your metabolism. It gives detailed eating plans and is easy to follow. It also works!

5 out of 5 stars A must read   June 30, 2009

I checked this book out from the public library then purchased it on Amazon as I had to have it. There is a lot of good information in here on ways to boost your metabolism. Especially valuable is the section which contains the weekly meal plans to get your metabolism going. I haven't followed the advice stricly to the letter, but I have switched to eating more protein and eating smaller portions more often and I feel better and have even lost a few pounds. This is a great book to own.

1 out of 5 stars Can't read the charts!!   May 3, 2009

The information is pretty good, but I'm very disappointed that even using the largest font, you can't even SEE the charts let alone what it says!! The font doesn't change on the charts and they look like they are very faded. I even tried using a magnifying glass and I STILL can't make out what it says. Very frustrating and disappointing. So now if I want to see what the charts say (and the charts are the key to the whole thing) I'll have to go buy the book. They should set up a place we can go to download these charts and lists after we spent $10 on a Kindle book that we can't read!! Don't waste your money on this Kindle book - go buy the book itself.

1 out of 5 stars DONT BUY FOR YOUR KINDLE!!!!!!   May 3, 2009

I bought this for my kindle and it is impossible to navigate!! Most of the book is tables - or charts which you not only cannot read on the kindle (the text is too tiny to see and you cannot make it any bigger) but if i tried to save the page to my clippings so that i could print it and read it there - it would not allow me to save any of the charts!!!! There are so many pages that tell to you refer to another page that it really is impossible to leave the page you are on...go find the page he refers you too...and get back to where you left off. Even if you can do that - in order to see what foods you are to eat, what exercises to perform, you cannot read the text anyway!!! NOT A GOOD KINDLE BOOK...SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE MAKING IT AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE THRU KINDLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
