| Customer Reviews: Great first book June 24, 2009 Susan Piper (Roselle, Il USA) Wonderful book for a toddler. We read it 4 and 5 times a day to our grandaughter who is 2. She loves the horses and cowboys in it but mostly Pal.
Great Starter Book, Especially For Horse Loving Kids September 7, 2008 John P. Richardson (Colorado Springs, CO) I bought this book for two reasons. First, my five year old daughter is a horse nut. Second, she was just starting to learn to read.
When I saw this book I figured this would be a good way of encouraging her to read. I wasn't let down. The words were challenging but not so hard that she couldn't work through them. And the story is sweet and entertaining, holding her interest right through. My hats off to the author on that score! This was a big hit with my daughter and our copy (along with it's follow-up, Pal and Sal) is now well worn.
Great book for beginning readers! March 1, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This book was perfect for our Kindergartener who is just learning to read. Pal the Pony kept her interest and motivated her to finish the book. The text is challenging but not frustrating: Plenty of easy to recognise sight words, plus longer words to sound-it-out. Our daughter was so excited to be able to read most of a book herself that she wants to order more. This title would appeal to boys or girls equally.

My daughter Brooke (5) is just beginning to read on her own, and absolutely loved this book. If your child loves ponies this book will keep their attention. The reading level is appropriate for a beginning reader and the pictures help them to decode the story. An excellent beginner book.
