Product Description This, the first all-photographic field guide to cover fossils found throughout North America north of Mexico, includes nearly 500 full-color photographs identifying corals, trilobites, shells, teeth, bones, as well as fossil-bearing rocks and outcrop formations. The descriptive text includes information on size, geological period, geographical distribution, and ecology of the animal or plant before it was fossilized. In addition, the book provides lists of Geological Survey offices and major fossil collections, a geological time chart, and a guide to collecting and preserving fossils.

The real Bible October 30, 2008 Unkl Whiskey 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good book for the beginner who knows that the earth is 4 billion years old..The types of fossils discussed are perfect for the average collector..Not too big like dinosaur bones. This is not a book on how to prepare a fossil collected. Just a reference to the identification of a fossil.Note..There are a few typo errors like missing pages but it is still a good book for the starter..
Over the fence June 21, 2008 C. S. Jennings (Austin, TX United States) Nobody does it like the National Audubon Society. Read the other reviews for more in-depth criticism. As an amateur rock hound, it serves my needs just fine.
National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Fossils June 9, 2008 Blanchard M. Guthrie (Alabama) An older book, never revised in 15 years it seems. Still appreciated by my sister, who it was gifted to. She's into archaeology. Appently still a good one.
Good books January 14, 2008 Doreen Marasco (Waterbury, Connecticut) Great price for a book that would cost more in any store. Very happy with my purchase
NAS Field Guide to Fossils January 12, 2008 Edson B. Waite (Dayton, OH, USA) Another excellent book by the National Audubon Society. I was impressed with the photos of the various fossils, and was able to identify many that I have found around my cabin. This book will go to my grandson to enhance his growing collection of field guides.
