Product Description
A glorious, unparalleled view of the human body . . . Revolutionary computer images from the creator of From Conception to Birth reveal the wonders and complexities of every system in the male and female bodies.
The human body is a marvel of engineering. From the muscular and skeletal systems of the hand working in concert to allow us to type, eat, and caress, to the circadian rhythms of the heart and digestive system keeping things moving despite our consciousness being elsewhere, our bodies are far more complex and awe inspiring than any man-made creation. Not since Andreas Vesalius’s On the Fabric of the Human Body, illustrated by the scholar in the mid-16th century, has there been a work examining human anatomy for both the scientific and lay communities. The Architecture and Design of Man and Woman is the ultimate illustrated look at the internal structures and processes that sustain us as living, thinking, social beings.
Using the most advanced medical and computer technology—including body scans, ultrapowerful microscopes, and molecular surveillance tools—Alexander Tsiaras, founder of a widely acclaimed medical-imaging company, hones in on the body’s intricately constructed systems and isolates structures that have never been seen before. In more than 500 astonishing images, he dismantles each system, highlights the anatomical difference between men and women, and rebuilds the body from the molecular level on up. Barry Werth’s lyrical, informative text enhances the power of the images, providing an array of startling and fascinating facts.
The Architecture and Design of Man and Woman is a milestone in science, art, and technology. As Werth writes in the Introduction, “For the first time we see the body not like something, or represented by human hands, or as a grainy negative or video, but very nearly as it is.”

The secret of life is engineering - D'Arcy Thompson June 30, 2009 Barbara L. Lemaster (Pompano Beach, Florida) Stunning book with images gleaned from cutting-edge medical imaging technology combined with computer enhancements. I work in the healthcare field, in a clinical laboratory, and a pathologist with an interest in photography borrowed this book and returned it later, stating how impressed he was with it. Seeing all the body systems laid out in full color and seeing how integrated they are is nothing short of remarkable.
The Architecture and Design of Man and Woman May 15, 2008 Louise J. Deville-Cavellin (Baltimore, MD USA) The Architecture and Design of Man and Woman: The Marvel of the Human Body, RevealedI can only describe it as absolutely breathtaking! As a nurse, I found it fascinating. I bought it as thank you gift for one of my favorite doctors due to the beauty and detail of the fine drawings and amazing photos. But I also think it should be a required text for high school students because it helps bring real clarity to the functioning of the human body. And the photos of nature and its correlation with the human body are profoundly beautiful and also inspiring.
Unmatched! February 11, 2008 Joel Krecklow (Eugene, Oregon) The book is amazing. It is both beautiful and illuminating. I have never seen anything like it and I will never see the body in the same light after perusing this book.

I work in the health care field and the photographs in this book are the most detailed I have ever seen. They are amazing in their detail The comparisons to other living things in nature are fascinating. I heartily recommend this book to anyone interested in how the human body functions.
Incredible view of the human body June 9, 2005 Adrian Jones (Richmind, VA USA) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
Have you ever wondered what the inside of your body Really looks like, but were never satisifed with the kinds of pictures you find in a text book? This book is what you've been looking for. Highly recommened to anyone with an interest in the human body. The book also contains a lot of information on how the body works and how its 'engineered' but all that takes a back seat to the amazing pictures.
