Product Description
What’s your drink of choice? Is it a small pumpkin spice latte? Then you’re lots of fun and a bit sassy. Or a medium americano? You prefer simplicity in life. Or perhaps it’s a small decaf soy sugar-free hazelnut caffe latte? Some might call you a yuppie. Seventeen-year-old barista Jane Turner has this theory that you can tell a lot about a person by their regular coffee drink. She scribbles it all down in a notebook and calls it Espressology. So it’s not a totally crazy idea when Jane starts hooking up some of her friends based on their coffee orders. Like her best friend, Em, a medium hot chocolate, and Cam, a toffee nut latte. But when her boss, Derek, gets wind of Jane’s Espressology, he makes it an in-store holiday promotion, promising customers their perfect matches for the price of their favorite coffee. Things are going better than Derek could ever have hoped, so why is Jane so freaked out? Does it have anything to do with Em dating Cam? She’s the one who set them up! She should be happy for them, right?

With overtones of Jane Austen’s Emma and brimming with humor and heart, this sweet, frothy debut will be savored by readers.

4 out of 5 stars A fun read for your Christmas break   November 15, 2009

Jane Turner is more than your average people-watcher; as a barista at her local "Wired Joe's" coffee shop, she's made a science out of analyzing people based upon their beverage of choice. She calls is Espressology, and it becomes the basis for a match-making endeavor that becomes the holiday promotion (tons-of-profits-earning, cool-enough-to-be-on-TV promotion) for the coffee shops. Everyone seems to be really happy--especially Jane's best friend Em (a hot chocolate) who was matched up with a cute guy from Jane's English class (a toffee nut latte). Everyone, that is, except Jane. How is it that everyone ends up with true love except for her?

So...I'm just waiting for this book to be turned into a movie, because it is perfect "chick flick" material. The plot, to be honest, isn't very complex (there's about half a subplot); this doesn't make it an astounding piece of literature, but it does make it a great, relaxing read that teenage girls will love. I found myself wishing my Christmas tree were up, so I could snuggle up in a fleece blanket with a cup of hazelnut cappuchino, and read by the tree lights--it was just that cozy. The idea is excellent, the characters are lovable and entertaining, the story is easy-to-read, sweet, and funny.

Jane had a crazy idea - she started writing down the types of coffee people ordered and created personality characteristics based on their drink of choice.

At first, it was just something she did in her spare time at the coffee shop where she works. But when a regular customer comes in with news that he's now single, Jane looks through her book of coffee matches to find him the perfect date. When she does the same for her co-worker, Jane realizes that she's found something unique.

Unfortunately, when her boss overhears her and her BFF talking about the results, he forces the truth out of them. Then he realizes Jane's talent will be perfect for their holiday promotion idea. She will set up couples who walk in and order coffee based on their drink choice and one tidbit of information.

Jane's freaked out when she's put on the spot. Will this be the best promotion ever - or will Jane die of humiliation?

THE ESPRESSOLOGIST is a cute romantic tale perfect for the winter season. I love the cover; it grabbed my attention right away. Throw in friendship drama, work issues, and a dash of school with the romance and you've got yourself a fun read with a side of coffee craving.

3 out of 5 stars Cute & Fun   November 8, 2009

The Espressologist was a simple and sweet story. The whole plot is anchored by Jane's Espressology which was very clever and original. It made for a very fun storyline. It totally made me crave some hot chocolate and also made me curious about some of the drinks that are mentioned in the story that you don't normally see on the menu at your local coffee shop!

While it was pretty obvious where the story was going I had a great time getting there. Lots of cute boys, sweet boys and great times with friends. I wish the relationship that comes to be at the ending was developed a little more though, making the ending more realistic. Regardless, this is a perfect book for the holidays, sure made me want to sit down with a warm cup of hot chocolate!

4 out of 5 stars CUTE FROTHY FUN   October 31, 2009

Cute fast read about Jane the coffee girl. Spot on voice draws you in from very first line. Clever motif about matching coffees to person. Almost too short though --as if written on too much caffeine and shallow in the way that you forget it as soon as it's downed. Still for what it is, it's fun. A nice debut! Read it if your under 16 and smile and order a double latte!

4 out of 5 stars Short and cute...   October 30, 2009

The Expressologist is one of those cute books that you can't put down. Jane Turner has a theory that you can tell a lot about a person by what is your regular coffee drink. She keeps a notebook with she calls Espressology. It is not a totally crazy idea, so she starts hooking up friends based by their coffee order. Like she set up her best friend, Emma(medium hot chocolate) with Cam(toffee nut latte). Soon, her boss, Derek gets wind of Jane's espressology. He decides that it needs be an in-store holiday promotion, promising Customers that will have their perfect match for the cost of a their favorite cup of coffee. Things are going so really, but why is Jane so nervous? Maybe it has something to do with a match that she made, but she is the one that set them up. So, she should be happy so them, right?
I found this book to be so cute. Jane's notebook was hilarious and made me laugh so hard. I could relate to Jane's personality. She was a sweet and tried to do the best actions for everyone, but sometimes she had to listen to her heart. The other character could have been developed a lot more and the subplots could have had more detail. The plot was original. I mean I have never seen a book with a similar plot like this. It did seem that it was a bit rushed, especially with the relationship between Cam and Jane and a few other plot points. Though, I was so excited for the match ups of couples, because they were perfect for each other. This is a cute and fun book, that I wish had quite a bit more length.
