Review Disc alone makes this book worth the price! November 13, 2009

I purchased Pass CCRN! 3rd Ed. after I had previously used and abused the 2nd edition. The big improvement between the two books, beyond updated material, is that is comes with a CD for your computer (WIN/MAC compatable) which has 1000 review questions that you can do in a body systems quiz format, 10 question per each body system, or a 150 question test. It gives you a timer so you can keep track of how long it is taking as you prep. In the multitude of times that I took quiz after quiz and test after test, I always got new questions in the mix. My score was 10% HIGHER on the real exam! There were questions on the actual CCRN that were almost verbatim of these study questions. My only complaint about this book is that I am not an outline format reader. I find it dry slow going. The disc and the end of the chapter review material help to overcome that, but if outline isn't for you, and you can afford it, I would purchase this book as well as Critical Care Certification: Preparation, Review and Practice Exams by Thomas Ahern. That was written in a reader friendly manner.

I passed with the help of the CD that came with this book and Vonfrolio's review book. Honestly, I didn't even open this book - only used the CD-ROM. The practice questions on it were great, it gave strategies for answering questions you had no clue about. It also told why each answer was right or wrong. One criticism I have is that I caught several errors. For example, the CD would say "Letter A" was correct and then in the explanation go on and on why "Letter A" was wrong and "Letter B" was correct. The errors were easy to spot, but still, not a good thing if you did happen to miss it. Despite that, I still learned a lot from the practice questions. How I did on the 150 practice question test was pretty much equivalent to how I did on the real thing. I would definitely recommend getting Vonfrolio's book to supplement this - that was the most helpful for me.

A great book for a quick review September 7, 2009

This is a great book for reviewing what I studied in college. Information is precise and concise and easy to look up if you need pertinent info immediately. No need of searching various thick books for eg: one for cardiology, pulmonary, renal etc etc.
It is also a great book if you want to look up information when you are done with college and working in the healthcare field in the many years to come.

This is an excellent book to use to study for the CCRN exam. It contains rationales for every question. I highly recommend this book. I have had the oppurtunity to also attend Robin Dennison's CCRN review, she has a supurb knowledge base and everytime she renews her CCRN certification she does it by taking the exam which allows her to have insight into pertinent information needed to study for the exam.
