Product Description
po•seur (noun): a person who pretends to be what he or she is not.

Charlotte Beverwil, Janie Farrish, Melissa Moon, and Petra Greene attend exclusive Winston Prep in the Hollywood Hills. And that's all they have in common. But hang out together? They'd rather be hanged. Borrow one another's clothes? They'd sooner borrow a zit. So when these four sophomores are forced into a class to create their own fashion label, they Clash with a capital C. Janie thinks Melissa and Charlotte are Beverly Hills brats. They dismiss Janie as a Valley rat in sheep's clothing. And Petra, well . . . Petra couldn't care less. Can a cool coquette, a shy punk, a hippie goddess, and a ghettoglam egomaniac make beautiful couture together? At Winston Prep, survival of the fittest comes down to who fits in-and what fits.

Introducing a juicy new series from the publisher of the national bestselling series Gossip Girl, The Clique, The It Girl, and The A-List.

Includes Do-It-Yourself instructions by NYC fashion label Compai and fashion sketches throughout by the author.

The Poseur books are so much fun to read!!! All four girls (Janie Farrish, Melissa Moon, Charlotte Beverwil, and Petra Green) have interesting personalties. I love the humor, drama, and romance that go on in these books. Plus, Rachel Maude's illustrations are absolutely amazing!!!!! Poseur is a perfect summer read. Actually, it's perfect to read any time of the year!!! :)

Janie Farrish, Charlotte Beverwil, Melissa Moon, and Petra Greene all come from different worlds. Janie is the tall, gawky girl who never sees her true potential. Charlotte is the American girl who wishes she was French. Melissa is the gangsta who grew up in Bel Air. Petra is the pot smoking, save the animals type. Now what do these four girls have in common?

Fashion. All of them have something to do with it, whether they design it, sew it, want it, or protest it. When the students find out they must create their own special studies, Petra, Janie, Charlotte, and Melissa focus their ideas on fashion. Sadly, none of them have good enough ideas to make into a class but with all their ideas together, it might be possible.

Will four girls with only one thing in common be able to bond and create their own fashion label or will all their ideas crash and burn?

I was a little diosappointed by this book. Going into it I thought I woould love it but it wasn't what I expected. It resembles Gossip Girl with it's underage drinking and drugs, which was my least favorite part. I don't know why all books these days seem to involve underage alcohol and drug use. This is a warning for anybody who doesn't like that theme in a book.

My other complaint were the characters. All of them seemed kind of whiny, in their own separate ways. It seemed to fit into the story at parts but a lot of it seemed unneccesary.

Of course, all I have to say is not bad. Rachel Maude does a wonderful job giving all the characters their own personalities. Even the background characters who aren't seen very much are described in great detail. I was very impressed with the character descriptions and the fashion descriptions. Being all about fashion, I knew this book would go into great detail about the clothes and accessories of the characters but I was amazed at how descriptive the author got. I could picture every outfit and accessory throughout the whole book and the pictures helped too. They made the book more like a fashion journal.

In the end, the good points seem to weigh out the bad and I would recommend this for a fun summer read.

4 out of 5 stars Fashionable Fun   June 23, 2009

I've read a few teen novels and while a lot of them embrace the fashion aspect by name dropping labels like Prada, Chanel, and Marc Jacobs, etc - Poseur goes so much further. It has some name checking, how could you not in the Hills. It also has a bit of Gossip Girl meets Project Runway. I love the DIY fashion aspect of the book and think it's inspiring and creates for a more fun and interesting read. It's a quick novel and the intermixed fashion drawings are quirky fun.

5 out of 5 stars Much better than I thought!   February 16, 2009

Since the 7th grade I have only and always thought I would read the clique series. I thought no other book can come across the clique, but boy was i wrong!!! I read a lot of other books, but nothing seemed quite right.. but poseur is perfect. The characters are REAL which is just what I was looking for in a book. You get entertained by the random pages of drawings that janie draws. I read this book in a total of 6 hours straight. Literally. It's so good! And another reason i adore this book is that the author explains the locations of l.a. impeccably.. I happen to be living in l.a. so I know where everything is... a lot of other authors just imagine and assume that l.a. would be like what they think, so they write that down. It's all fake. This author was born and raised, so she knows her l.a. and i love that.
