Product Description For decades Americans have turned to LIFE to see, understand, and remember the most important events and people of our time. Just as LIFE once opened up the glittering Kennedy White House, LIFE now focuses its lens on Barack Obama. The American Journey of Barack Obama covers the candidate from his childhood and adolescence to his time as editor of The Harvard Law Review and his Chicago activist years, culminating with the excitement and fervor of the historic 2008 Democratic National Convention. The unfolding drama of Obama's life and political career is cinematic in scope, and never has it been presented so compellingly. In addition to a powerful array of photographs that were taken by many of the country's greatest photographers (and some that were snapped, in the quiet moments, by Obama family members themselves), this book also includes a Foreword by Senator Edward M. Kennedy, an incisive narrative biography and original essays by some of our finest writers, including Gay Talese, Charles Johnson, Melissa Fay Greene, Andrei Codrescu, Fay Weldon, Richard Norton Smith, Bob Greene and several others. Many readers will find a new understanding of Obama. All readers will feel that they are bearing witness to a singular, undeniably American story.

Barrack NO bama August 22, 2009 Kenpo Mark (god bless the USA) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
And a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER shall lead them....
The most inexperienced and least qualified of all presidents.
Never held office previously
Was only a Junior Senator with little experience with the legislative branch
Never proposed any substantial ideas or innovative bills
Never a CEO or in an executive position
Has proven to be a polarizing figure with radical, anti American; anti white associates
Claims victory for anything positive, but STILL blames all mishaps on Bush (thats getting old)
This man is now a US President; not because he is qualified, but because his PUBLIC RELATIONS campaign succeeded at pushing the mantra of change... WITHOUT EVER DEFINING WHAT THE CHANGE WAS.
Now that the honeymoon is over, it is clear to even the liberal element that this was a mistake and he is not what his campaign portrayed him.
If you want to discuss real change, take a look at a real president, like that of Ronald Reagan. There are some fine audio books (Reagan in his own words, Reagan Diaries), this is for the serious scholar; and sell the Obama book on ebay for a $1, that's all it's worth.

I know -I haven't read this and wouldn't let smut like this into my house.
I just want to know why America is asleep when it comes to this man. He is tearing down the foundation our country stands on bit by bit. He has disregarded the 1st and 2nd amendments numerous times and we are losing our freedom! Whether it be due to inexperience or a hidden agenda, he is destroying what took decades and many presidents to build! WAKE UP America!
Look at what's inside the first African American president instead of the stupid color of his skin! So sad. He wasn't even born here- he refuses to prove that he was. He pays attorneys millions of dollars to stall the courts and make excuses as to why he shouldn't have to produce a document that I had to produce to get a driver's license or a social security card. He is not above all and should be accountable to the people he says he represents!
excellent picture book...a great president May 15, 2009 Jesenia Magnia (Concord, Ca USA) Yesterday, I purchased this book on Barack Obama I really found it very informative, covering the background of being afican. There is a great presidental story of Obama, his own historical story. The book has his own family tree, pictures of him when he was growing up and others of his family life. I enjoyed the color illustrations, just browsing through it. On a personal level I like Barack Obama as president. I'd recommend this book for kids or youth who want to read an easy book; it's definetly worth the time and money in my opinion. It about time we got a afican president in the white house.... Obama Rocks!!!
The American Journey of Barack Obama April 6, 2009 Joi Starr (Zachary, LA) This is an awesome book. Life did an outstanding job revealing to us the man, President Obama. Just to see him in the early pictures was great. I enjoyed hearing about his family and his humble beginning. I recommend this to everyone that ever wanted to know something about our president!
